Seeing this after a full day of #SMA clinic hurts my heart. My early treated pts are running and jumping. It’s unacceptable to deny tx. #zolgensma works & time is motor neurons. How dare an insurance company deny a lifesaving treatment for these sweet babies. @DGlaucomflecken

!!!!! @AK_GomezWeaver in the newspaper for her important and interesting work :) I will add she’s also very good at pizza making and touring her Texas bestie around the bay.
Always a privilege to work with @JenniferR_Head on emerging questions in Valley fever! Fingers crossed we can use drones to keep answering those questions. Incredible coverage by @washingtonpost Gift access:

Proud of this work with two fantastic clinicians/thinkers in an effort to highlight the financial challenges residents may face depending on where they train. Residency is hard enough as is! The economic burden associated with training must be acknowledged and addressed.
I have a new paper in @JournalGIM with @HannahFTodd_ & @jbcarmody. Among IM residencies in the 10 most expensive areas, few offer cost of living stipends. Compensation is more closely correlated with local per capita income than actual cost of living measures. Cc @cirseiu @acgme

Very important news :) I am so excited! @elizacmartin
Yes, we’re re-naming NRG Stadium, where Taylor Swift is performing to NRG Stadium (Taylor’s Version). There will be special banners with the new name at the stadium’s North and South entrances. Can’t wait for the concert this weekend!

Reviewing the patients’ stories that went into creating the scorecard was heavy, but that’s nothing compared to the reality these kids face. Proud to work w @brittljohn, @bnaikma, & others to catch child abuse more promptly and accurately.

I should also add that all this learning was facilitated by truly incredible @bcmhouston clinicians who taught me more than I could ever have anticipated through both their actions & their constant willingness to answer my unfortunately endless questions :). #MedStudentTwitter

Each and every patient I got to meet were people first and foremost with stories, hobbies, ideas, and (plenty of) opinions, and I am finishing this year struck by the privilege it is to learn medicine with & from real life-real people, real problems, & not always solutions.

the patient who set up a jewelry store out of her hospital room complete w/ hours posted on the door, the patient who knew the names and which days the different Child Life dogs worked, & the patient who called me a grandma for knowing nothing about Call of Duty.

I'm remembering the patient whose brother was a janitor at the same hospital&visited him every am before starting his workday, the patient who insisted on calling me doc despite my reminders that I was only a med student because 'I would be one real soon and already was to him,'

Core rotations ended last week. My thoughts are a mess of gratitude, wonder, exhaustion, and everything in between. I have been thinking about all the special patients and their loved ones I met, hoping they are spending the holidays well and together. #MedTwitter

An honest repairman. Water aerobics. Lifesaving medicine. These are just a few of the things New York Times readers are grateful for this year.
