Kind of fitting that this account was started in the depths of NYC’s COVID malaise and is celebrating its 5th anniversary in the wake of Mamdani’s win. Per @rhunterh, life really is just one damn thing after another . #MyXAnniversary

Zohran cope levels are getting out of control. Here’s @reihan calling him a ‘failson’. Leaving politics aside, a 33-year-old Dem nominee for mayor is kind of definitionally not that. Elected to state office at 28, too. What was he supposed to do in his mid-20s, cure cancer?

45 million people died of starvation in communist China when the govt took control of the markets. Apparently the new NYC mayor wants the city to own their supermarkets. I hope he can do it better than the Chinese did.

If this happens, I would only ask the territorial administrator to ban the Hugo Spritz. It’s inferior to the Aperol one, which is itself nothing to write home about

Galaxy brain corollary:. It's 2028 and something isn't working out between the two. She resigns, says she's not getting the support she needs to keep the city safe, whatever. And a few months later. the Tisch/Mamdani primary becomes one for the ages.

My prediction:. It’s September. Zohran (who said he wouldn’t reappoint Jessica Tisch) will make a show of meeting with commissioner candidates, including Tisch. Then he’ll say actually she’s good, he’s going to keep her. Pick off a few Adams voters, Zohran’s base won’t care.

Effectively there was a coalition between old homeowners in Queens and, like, JP Morgan - and that isn't holding together anymore. BdB beating Quinn was an early indication of that, but demographics make it more likely every year. Centrists will need to way better than Cuomo.

Suggests the demographic for a 'reasonable centrist' is shrinking. There simply aren't enough Adams/Cuomo-type voters to overcome a candidate on the left who can mobilize the young PMC base.

Important article. In effect, NYC elections increasingly pit newer renters against older homeowners. So the more rental housing we build - particularly in areas along the gentrification frontier - the more votes will go to progressive candidates. Last night was a case in point.

I'd like to think the NYC mayoral results confirm the observations I made back in 2021 about the relationship between an influx of young PMC transplants into new rental housing and the fate of left electeds

My observation from walking my dog in Bushwick (Mamdani: 80%) just now: everyone is inside due to it being very hot. So no conclusions to draw.

If things hold, Zohran is going to be my fourth mayor. Predictions from past experience:. The bureaucracy will remain a slow moving boat. A bunch of HKS and Wagner grads will run the agencies. We’ll complain about everything. Then we’ll do it all again in 2029. Plus ça change. ✌️.

There are certain moments where are deep and intense vibes get transmitted in and through NYC. Hard to explain. The weekend before COVID lockdown was one. Also the unseasonably warm Saturday when Biden was declared winner in 2020. Here on Twitter tonight is yet another.

See, I'm old as fuck. I was around five years ago when this is how everyone talked, all the time. Back in those days, a common Twitter trope was to show screengrabs of how cheap a one-way U-Haul was to NYC, and how expensive it was to, say, anywhere else.

Talked to a very fancy architect who says that built-in microwaves in apartments mess with the feng shui. He prefers to place an outlet in an upper cabinet to accommodate a freestanding microwave (if someone wants one). I don't know if I agree. I don't own a microwave myself.

The guests who stay in my apartment when I'm gone from New York City are often perplexed by the fact that I don't own a microwave. But that just isn't what I'm doing in my apartment. It hasn't been an issue for me.
