745 people aged 16-24 treated for "gaming disorder" over four years.
88% of the UK's 7.5m 16-24 year olds play games (6.6m roughly)
Therefore, "gaming disorder" affects 0.01% of players - making the risk de minimis and stories like this blatant scaremongering.
Having a debate with someone and wanted to use Twitter to solve it.
If you’re in the UK games industry and are pro EU, could you like this tweet?
RTs and the like appreciated.
It’s the 20th birthday of Champ Man 01/02 today so it’s a good opportunity to share my favourite door from the SI offices, featuring many a classic name from games gone past
This is clearly deliberate, football transfer window-type tweeting : Here We Go, fire emoji, 'Huge move', 'He's back'...
All building up for the "We go again" tweet after the general election defeat...
Love this piece from

's marriage
"It reminds us that sometimes, you just have to screw over your partner to get ahead."
- Sensationalist headline 'CASH TO BE TURNED INTO CHIPS' followed by quiet admission they can't be cashed out.
- Reports its an 18 rated game but then casually says 'yeah but teens play it right?'
- Doesn't point out that 'third party black markets' are ILLEGAL.
Our

Thanks again to
@guardian
for covering a games news story without contacting anyone in the industry for a right of reply.
For anyone with a calculator, there’s about 12m people who play in that age category. So 56 referrals = 0.0000047% of players.
Reporter: Sunderland’s 9 match unbeaten runs means they’re the form team going into the playoffs.
Luton Town fans, considering the club’s 14 match unbeaten run.
So I’m pleased to say that today is my first day as
@uk_ie
’s full time Head of Communications.
I promise I am more delighted about this than my expression suggests.
The Banshees of Inishiren: for everything it does brilliantly, the part that isn’t leaving me is how much it captures the simple and profound pain of losing a friendship
I’ve long suspected that most dislike of video games is based on little more than an embedded sense amongst the “higher echelons” that they’re a form of low culture.
This illustrates the argument effectively.

Anyone care to answer how this isn't in contravention of the BBC's editorial guidelines?
Specifically from the Politics, Public Policy and Polls section

We must not campaign, or allow ourselves to be used to campaign.
A few people have been tweeting about how unfortunate Robert Jenrick was to do the media round pre u-turn, but I’ll save my sympathy for when he’s made sure property developers pay for the removal of dangerous cladding on the buildings they put up 💁♂️
A game made by a fantastic British business goes viral and attracts millions of players.
The first thing the team does with that audience? Raise an absolute shed load of money for charity.
That’s how you use a platform for good
@IanDunt
Average annual income of non UK EU nationals in the UK video games industry sits at around £28k. Bye bye one third of the sector if this is rolled out...
It’s minor news but, after two years of service on the good ship
@uk_ie
, I’m pleased to say my fiefdom has ever so slightly expanded and I am now its Head of Campaigns and Communications.
Onwards!
The results of the UK Games Industry Census are out.
Over 3600 people in the UK games industry told us about their backgrounds and working lives (including what impact Covid had on it) and BOY did we learn a lot.

The games industry has a dedicated global programme for decarbonisation and the majority of its players are younger people who support efforts to stop the climate crisis.
But hey, why let facts get in the way of stopping a Tekken tournament?

My new obsession is my Garmin’s Body Battery score, which has taken all the complex factors that add up to my physical/mental well being and converted it into a number to make me feel like a poorly charged smartphone.
It's also the third time that this private clinic - which receives funding from the NHS to provide the service, but must argue for funding to be renewed - has reported "soaring cases" of gaming disorder to the press (previously did so with the FT and the BBC).
I would take Conservative claims that school is vital more seriously if they hadn’t overseen years of real term funding cuts to education and the biggest teacher recruitment/retention crisis in our lifetimes
I applaud and share the sentiment of young people wanting to address climate change - and am really proud of our 25 Year Environment Plan and UK record of decarbonisation - but school is vital and this protest could be done at the weekend or in half term
Hitchin Priory results:
Conservatives - 660
Lib Dems (me) - 512
Labour - 308
Greens - 123
Turnout of 45.4%. Really pleased to have significantly cut the Tory lead and ready to win it next time for

The tax relief it claims is:
- Done so legitimately because it passes the cultural test.
- Supports jobs in Lincoln, Leeds, London and Edinburgh.
- Adds £4 to the British economy for every quid put into it.
But let’s not allow facts to get in the way of a good moral panic.
The developer of the computer game Grand Theft Auto V is paying no UK corporation tax but claiming millions of pounds in public subsidy for the game’s contribution to British cultural life
Rare to talk publicly about dating fails, but the person who ranted to me for ten minutes about games being toxic and THEN asked what I do for a living is up there.
American Game of Thrones fans: I am going to transcribe and tweet the entire script of Avengers Endgame in two weeks time if you don’t learn to rein it in a bit.

No hard feelings George, here's a proper Blast Corps one. Threw in a bonus Jet Force Gemini design in case it was the bug blasting that you particularly liked in Body Harvest.
Fascinating insight into

This level of thought, preparation and man management seems to be a major reason why we consistently punch above our weight.
My Nan told us that she wanted to live beyond 89 and stay in her home until the end of her life. Naturally for someone as driven and determined as she was, she achieved both.

Brexit will cause serious harm to the UK games industry, reports

Damn right it will. That's why we're supporting

Fun fact: Xbox could have bought the ten most valuable football clubs and had $30bn+ change leftover for the amount they paid to acquire Activision Blizzard King.
Games are quite big business, apparently.
If video games have prepared me for anything, it’s dystopian futures where resources are scarce and we battle for essentials.
Which is to say that I’m ready for Christmas this year.
I know a lot of people will wade in on someone answering like this, but he’s not the person to be angry with.
Instead, it’s important to keep your anger focused on the leading leavers.
They sold the lie and they have to be held responsible for it.
All products legally made in the UK are automatically legal across Europe.
That's what the Single Market means. So what does Brexit mean for Sunderland?
@Femi_Sorry
And as has happened every time its popped up in the news cycle, journalists have rarely bothered to ask the industry for its perspective or even for a fact check (e.g. there are tools already available to manage screen time and spend) to give the story a basic shakedown.
I remember when I did my history degree that I once thought “gosh, wouldn’t it be interesting to live through a defining moment in history?”
I take it back.
