New paper in LQR. What role for values in mental capacity law? Recourse is often found in the 'safe homogeneity' of master values like welfare and autonomy. Is this correct? Drawing on Aristotle, Sartre, Taylor and the views of 56 practitioners, we argue not. Message for a copy.

I wish more A-list directors took the risks Coppola did, unafraid of dissatisfying viewers like me. Cinema would be the richer for it. I hope it has a long tail of viewership at the cinema, and inspires others to be as daring (perhaps at a more modest budget).

The film's numerous flaws lead to *many* mockable moments, but I feel almost guilty in engaging in such mockery because it seems to denigrate the evident dedication to craft that the work exudes.

Finally managed to catch Megalopolis. It's breathtaking in its lofty ambition and eagerness to wantonly disregard filmmaking conventions, but deeply, almost tragically disappointing in its inability to adequately realize the vision that Coppola was evidently trying to convey.

My takeaway is that Iceland on hearing about this has slowly, secretly been migrating southward to the mainland to take advantage of that generous Iberian hospitality.
