The sensory-motor cortex harbors distinct white matter connections that enable mapping of the SCAN via structural imaging, paving the way for novel approaches in motor cortex stimulation and lesion resection. 🧵.
Using microdissections, fMRI and intraoperative recordings, Skandalakis et al. show that the ‘plis de passage’ of the central sulcus—small gyri bridging the pre- and postcentral gyri—provide a structural substrate for the somato-cognitive action network.
