Hey #onted friends, I've added Ontario curriculum expectations across grades 1-3, 4-6 and 7-8. Please share with anyone who might find this useful :) https://t.co/bZ1krAsz6z https://t.co/QMzymZ7Fip https://t.co/KJdIXEZDmZ

How many ways can you show one quarter? Gr 7 Ss @LeslieThomasSch used a fraction square to shade 1/4 as many different ways as they could. One question that led to lots of rich conversations. #HRCEMath @FractionTalks

A neat puzzle- 1. Shade any 2 sections 2. What fraction of the square is shaded? 3. What other fractions are possible? Impossible? This puzzle kicked off discussions at an online Maths Teacher Circles session.

I’m using this one today in my summer school class, @BerkeleyEverett! It’s a perfect progression from the @FractionTalks we used on Monday (shown below).

@fawnpnguyen @BerkeleyEverett @Simon_Gregg I do love having kids create! I will also say that I tend to use this as a number talk/@FractionTalks pretty early on in the Gr 4 fraction work, and it really brings out some important ideas around unit fractions and equivalence. But a different purpose than your original tweet!

@MarieMcMB @FractionTalks is literally my next stop after the physical tangrams. So great for reasoning! ...and yes, some students want a strategy that works every time. I like hearing all strategies and comparing, noticing, generalizing...😍

You can use any other blocks you want, as long as your triangle includes those three. Incidentally, these blocks are on a pretty great sale on Amazon right now! https://t.co/RCp1fATImb

Here's an interesting #UpscalePB challenge I just stumbled across: what's the minimum number of blocks it takes to make a triangle using all three sizes of triangle block? Here's a polypad version of the problem @MathigonOrg #iteachmath #mtbos https://t.co/lW2FDuonpj

Kids walk in…together, we complete the first row…visibly random groups and kids are off building… we ask for the “how muchness” of each shape…with some timely hints, we pushed from early skip counting (2’s, 5’s) to groups of (eg, 9 groups of 5). @pgliljedahl @FractionTalks
