It's great to see the PBSO/CSO dialogue continue for three years running, as it's become a good platform for community building and exchanging practices. But it's a sign of the times that this year's dialogue takes place in Geneva and not at UNHQ...
At the Palais des Nations 🇺🇳, the 3⃣rd #CSOUNDialogue on Peacebuilding kicks off today. This year’s theme: Operationalizing a Whole-of-System Approach to Peacebuilding and Sustaining Peace. WPS and YPS remain at the heart of the conversation. #InvestInPeace

Emerging reports that AFC/M23 have taken over the town of Uvira. US has called for an emergency UNSC briefing. Developments come as Council experts begin negotiations on MONUSCO’s mandate.
Escalation around #Uvira in eastern #DRC alarming. ICG for #GreatLakes, chaired by 🇩🇪, urges M23 & RDF to halt offensive operations now, calls on all actors to honour their commitments of #WashingtonAccords, #Doha Framework Agreement & #UNSC Res 2773

The SG's caution about the public/visible dimensions of his role of 'chief diplomat' is something that raises ire among many diplomats across the UN. @thantmyintu points to a specific example where the UN's good offices could make an impact.
This is EXACTLY the kind of conflict the UN (Secretary-General) should be mediating. There are many wars where it’s hard to see how the UN can best help. But in this case, I really don’t see why the Secretary-General cannot fly tonight to Thailand, Cambodia and other capitals

The trip comes days before the anniversary of the fall of Bashar al-Assad, and as Lebanon is navigating the cease-fire between Hezbollah and Israel.

It's good to see this closed-door UNSC meeting on the negotiations in the DRC taking place today. IID formats can be very helpful when diplomats want to discuss on-going diplomatic efforts, or even raise conflict prevention topics that would normally spook Council members.
Tomorrow morning (26 November), #UNSC members will hold an informal interactive dialogue (IID) on the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). ◻ Briefers: Representatives of the US, Qatar, and Togo, as well as SG Special Envoy @un_greatlakes @HuangXia16, ASG @UNDPPA
