Educators' view: Far from being a relic of the past, writing by hand engages multiple senses at once and strengthens cognitive abilities.

🤔if given a choice, would you travel back in time or into the future? Our poll has some astonishing connections to that and the emotions that go into how people vote in elections. Crazy right! The two best experts @ChrisLaneMA and @brentbuc have the analysis. Pod linked in bio

The public education system has engaged in a profoundly unique experiment to take tutoring to scale as part of pandemic recovery efforts. I had the pleasure of speaking w/ @lizcohen12 about what we've learned & where we go from here. https://t.co/xHvvjx8BOq

Tutoring! @MatthewAKraft sees a path for sustaining it, perhaps with an assist from AI. But will probably take longer than people think #edchat #edpolicy #edtech

"If I had one piece of advice for parents, it would be that they should act quickly if they spot any red flags about their child’s reading progress." Good advice! Subscribe to Aldeman On Education

Honored to write for @DystinctMag on what “evidence-based” should truly mean in schools. Parents deserve clarity about interventions, how progress is measured, and whether support is closing learning gaps, not just checking boxes. Read here: https://t.co/ZKi6JJOxaw

New on The Future of Tutoring: my conversation with Brown University economist Matt Kraft. Did we overhype tutoring? What more do we need to understand about how tutoring works? Why does Matt think tutoring could be the next kindergarten? (Link to interview in comments!)

It’s a good thing a large number of progressive education groups haven’t built their whole identity around opposing the expansion of school choice

Expanding school choice enjoys +9% net support, ranking above traditional Democratic priorities like preschool or Title I funding—a notable sign of how mainstream school choice has become.

The most unpopular thing you can do on education policy right now is run on getting rid of tracking in public schools

Virginia is trying to raise standards for students to better prepare them for opportunity. It will be phased in over 4-5 years. That's still *too fast* for various adult interests. Virginia's standards have fallen to the lowest in the country in some cases. 1/2

Over the years, when standards were lowered, I can't remember people speaking up and saying "too fast!" "Phase it in." Ever. This timeline is arguably too long, but regardless it's time to move forward. 2/2 https://t.co/Egq61B1ZFx
