I did it! Diarmuid died when our youngest was 7. I thought I’d never cope alone with two teenage boys and a small girl. But that small girl just turned 18. I can’t believe I got them all to adulthood and they’re just amazing. 27, 25 and 18 now. 😊

It’s not only acceptable, it’s liberating! I was widowed at 42 and after a few years of loneliness I got sick of waiting around for friends to check plans and decide if they were free for nights out or trips away. I said feck it and started going away by myself. I’m hooked!

My Mam & Dad got married 60 years ago today - 01.07.61. ☺️ My Dad died in 2002 and my Mam has Alzheimer’s but I thought someone should acknowledge it so here’s two lovely photos of their wedding day. 💓

I miss my Mam. 😞 She’s had Alzheimer’s for 3 years and has been in a nursing home for the last 15 months. Up to recently she was still somewhat communicative and she knew me. Now she’s lost

Here’s the part that kills me. This tells me that the farmer made them 100% aware of this dog’s energy levels and his huge need for physical exercise. Only the most energetic breeds like working dogs need 4 hours exercise and they knew that upfront and still went ahead. 😡

Children are the best at grief. My husband died when my daughter was 7. Her classmates made cards for her. They were the most honest of all the sympathy cards we got. No bullshit about angels. Most were “It’s very sad that your Daddy died”. One just said “Your Dad is dead” lol

Life is very hard when you’re doing it all alone - parenting, bills, car repairs, stresses, anxiety, kids illnesses etc. I do sometimes envy women with partners to share the load. I’m so tired. Today was the NCT. I know it’s not a huge thing, but just another responsibility.

I was widowed at 42 and for ages afterwards envied couples who got 30 or 40 years together. But then I realised, regardless of how long you had together, the pain of losing the person you love is sheer agony.
My heart goes out to Queen Elizabeth. 💓
There’s something about the image of a 94 year old lady waiting alone to say a final farewell to her husband of 73 years that gets me in the pit of my stomach. Regardless of status or privilege this is heartbreaking

Spending Diarmuid’s 10th anniversary with my lovely kids. They were 7, 15 & 17 when he died. Now I’m the mother of a 17yo & two grown men! They make me so proud.
A few years ago I had Diarmuid’s wedding ring melted down & made into pins for my sons and a pendant for my daughter.

It’s 10 years today since my brother Ray died. He was 44. It was the weekend of the worst floods we’d seen in decades. Cork was under water. Ray had what seemed like the flu but that night he collapsed and died. Turned out to be a brain aneurysm. RIP Ray. Always missed.
