Elon Musk says he embraces free-market capitalism. I can't think of many people more dependent on state support than him. He's built his companies on the backs of government subsidies, public technology, tax breaks, government loans, and exclusive government contracts.

Occasional reminder that no president in modern history has done more to bring manufacturing back to America than @JoeBiden. Trump talks big game about bringing jobs back to America. Biden does the actual work to make it happen.

Brilliant piece. Encapsulates so much of what has gone wrong and it just at Boeing. Well worth a read. Boeing and the Dark Age of American Manufacturing - The Atlantic

3# Policy implication: Solar provides more short-term local benefits in terms of construction-related jobs & revenues, wind parks provide less short-term benefits for local workers but municipalities gain significant financial benefits over the long-term

2# size-wise, GDP increases appear to be entirely driven by power sales, with little to no spillovers to other sectors. We find significant & persistent public revenue increases (taxes & intergov. transfer) for wind municipalities, while in solar this is restricted to year 1.

1# we compare municipalities that receive a solar or wind park (>5MW) to control municipalities, using a difference-in-difference design. While job impacts are small (1-1.5 jobs/MW solar, 0.2-0.25 in wind), we find a 23% &12% GDP increase for average-sized solar and wind park.

NEW: an ideological divide is emerging between young men and women in many countries around the world. I think this one of the most important social trends unfolding today, and provides the answer to several puzzles.
