Assistant Professor of Physics at MIT working on black hole astrophysics. she/her.
Cambridge, MA
Joined June 2017
For 24 years, the Chandra X-ray observatory has unraveled the mysteries of the universe from right here in Massachusetts. With Chandra poised for groundbreaking discoveries into the 2030s, I'm urging @NASA to continue Chandra's missions and enable many more years of discovery.

Searching for the elusive intermediate-mass black holes, @ArcodiaRiccardo found something quite puzzling https://t.co/2AxlE0u1mp (today). @eROSITA_SRG #blackholes

Finding massive black holes (MBHs, $M_{BH}\approx10^4-10^7 M_{\odot}$) in the nuclei of low-mass galaxies ($M_{*}\lessapprox10^{10} M_{\odot}$) is crucial to constrain seeding and growth of black...

Loved my time at UMD... Great department, great colleagues!
UMD astronomy is hiring! It's an open call, though we're particularly interested in observers this time. Feel free to message if you're interested and have questions, since I went through the process not that long ago. https://t.co/hRAksZv5SX

Our recent paper on JWST's overmassive black holes at z > 4 was featured on @astrobites by MIT grad student Megan Masterson, in @ErinAstro's fantastic group! Great article! Thank you! :) https://t.co/PW9StgTjtQ

How do distant supermassive black holes affect their host galaxies? And how were they formed? Today's paper explores these questions with a sample distant SMBHs discovered by JWST!

It works!! #XRISM
This is NOT βfirst light,β and is not from a celestial source. This is the on-orbit spectrum of the onboard Fe-55 cal source illuminating the full XRISM Resolve array, showing a resolution of ~4.4 eV. First science results to come in late 2023/early 2024!

The X-ray microcalorimeter, developed by a NASA-GSFC-led team, is an amazingly sensitive device where the energy of an photon is measured by noticing the increase in temperature of the pixel caused by absorbing it! To do this, each camera pixel is cooled to 50 milliKelvin !!!

Paper day! We examined JWST active galaxies at z=4-7 and found a high-z Mbh-M* relation that deviates at >3sigma from the local one. Black holes are 10-100x overmassive compared to their local counterparts. This fact is not due to a selection effect. https://t.co/OIzsYpmNdT
