They see two families of particles with different velocities, which can be mapped back to two different origins. One family are cosmic rays from supernova explosions. The second family is the first, but with subsequent interactions with the interstellar medium. (2/3)

TIL the sun reprocesses cosmic rays into gamma rays which are picked up by water tanks in Mexico equipped with detectors. They found that the sun's region changes size over the years. Wild. @HAWC_Obs
