Geology DOES matter. But--. I would've liked more specific analysis, @gbrumfiel. Dolomitic limestone is significantly softer than concrete, for example. I'm sure somebody has run the models. We have a lot of info about the geologic structure of northern Iran.

Another horse truth.
I found this bit of history on Facebook. My first reaction was this: “The history of weights and measures should be taught in schools!”. The US standard railroad gauge (distance between the rails) is 4 feet, 8.5 inches. That's an exceedingly odd number. Why was that gauge used?.

@statnews At a time when syphilis is resurgent and we only have a single drug that still treats gonnorhea, do we really want to erase the only lab that studies this stuff in the US?.
