So

and I got married in March 2020 (yep, right when COVID shut everything down). So our long postponed actual wedding is this weekend. How are we marking the table numbers? Guests are being assigned metro stops, because

There's a
@wmata
operator who is often on the Yellow Line who really is into his announcements and is honestly just upbeat overall. Honestly just really makes a great start to my day when I'm on his train.
Well, after several failed attempts, I finally commuted via water taxi this morning and it was a great experience! It honestly was faster getting from DC to Alexandria via water taxi than my standard metro commute before the shutdown. Would love this to be a regular option.
On the metro and a 10ish year old tourist who said he's from California is going around asking people if they're from DC and then telling them he thinks we have a beautiful city. Thanks kid, I think so too 🙂
Funny how fear mongers on this app talk about Union Station as if it's some abandoned dystopia filled with crime. I'm here almost weekly and it's always pretty full... This morning lots of people getting on trains, commuting, traveling... Don't listen to fear mongers on twitter.
Moderator: "When was the last time you took public transportation?"

@ChmnMendelson

😳
Overheard the bus driver talking to another passenger about how much easier and more efficient these bus bulbouts on M St SE make his job now that he no longer needs to pull in and out of traffic. 💯
Busy crowd at Union Station today... I thought according to twitter this place was supposed to be a vacant dystopian hellscape with the threat of lurking around every corner?
The Pennsylvania Ave SE share in-street bike/bus platforms construction began this week, beginning on the eastern end of 13th street SE to 3rd street.
Each of the 10 platforms will take a little over a week, scheduled to conclude in April
Then bike lanes!!! h/t
@EdwardRyder
Saw at least 10 other people using the Penn Ave bike lanes this morning. Including this person with a bike full of groceries who said she uses it daily! Such a great improvement along Penn Ave, thanks
@DDOTDC
!
35 years ago today my parents found this big headed baby left on their doorstep (kidding). My parents went through so much to adopt this little guy, and today is the anniversary of the day they finally were able to take me home. It's my adoption day!!
So critique of
#SITW
day one. Too much packed into a small area. Two major stages immediately next to each other is a bad idea... I can hear both at the same time and enjoy neither.

Yesterday I tweeted about enjoying announcements from a
@wmata
operator. Quickly became 1 of my most liked tweets. Many people responded w/ stories about other great operators. Makes me so happy to see that much appreciation for the people who work hard to keep our city moving.
Headed to Richmond today, for something that starts around 5pm. Really surprised there are only 3 trains a day between DC and Richmond. Leaving DC at 720am, 350pm, and 710pm... So unless I wanted to leave at 720am and spend all day there
@Amtrak
wasn't an option 😞
I support D.C. Statehood and home-rule – but I don’t support some of the changes D.C. Council put forward over the Mayor’s objections – such as lowering penalties for carjackings.
If the Senate votes to overturn what D.C. Council did – I’ll sign it.
I can't stress enough how much I hate the intersection of 11th SE and 695. A couple months ago I was hit by a car there. Today, I had the walk sign. Car turning onto highway slowed, seemingly to let me cross, then sped up, came within inches of me and laid on the horn 🤦♂️😫
Capitol Hill trick or treaters really are just the best. So many families, so many great costumes, just one of the many great things about our neighborhood.
Approaching 24 hours at Washington Hospital Center... only left to take care of the dogs. The little Ryder is on the way! 👶 (But probably not for a few more hours).
My dad died at
@MedStarHealth
Washington Hospital Center just a little over a year ago. Today my son was born at Washington Hospital Center. I wasn't sure how I'd feel coming back here, but it feels like a nice circle of life type of thing. ♥️
I keep dwelling on 8th Street bus priority project discussion from the 6B transpo meeting. Some serious anti-bus rhetoric happened, a lot of "otherizing" of people who ride buses. Bus riders were underrepresented while those opposed for car-centric reasons had the loudest voices.
Question for DC Twitter. I have a developer in my SMD who is building a condo building. The condos in the building are being marketed only to Turkish investors, with the aim of then offering them to voucher holders as an "investment opportunity" for the buyers 1/2
Walking amidst the desolate ruins of the once great train station, I questioned reality. Hallucinations —people or tumbleweeds? Union Station, I was told, is now a ghost town, devoid of people... Surely I must be seeing things?
Just witnessed 4 cars blow through a red at this intersection. Already such a dangerous intersection but yet DDOT plans to expand it to 4 lanes.... (11th St SE & 695)
It's so beautiful 😍 bus bulb out and bike lanes.... And before anyone goes "But there's no one in those bike lanes!!! 🫨🫨🫨" they aren't open yet... Also how many cars are on the street?
Some think that no one takes buses to visit Eastern Market and prioritizing bus traffic on 8th would hurt businesses and the Market. Notice all the people waiting for the bus at 8th and Independence at 2pm on a Sunday, right next to Eastern Market, many with shopping bags.
Thank you
@charlesallen
for being at Potomac Avenue Station this morning to talk with neighbors. I know we're all shaken by yesterday's senseless violence.
I was in a meeting recently where someone complained about Penn Ave bike/bus lanes & said they watched 12 hours of video of the Penn Ave bike lanes and only saw 5 bikes... I've been sitting at Hype and counted 12 bikes in 10 minutes.... So..... 🚲
Dave Grohl is undeniably awesome. During the Super Bowl he spent his time barbecuing for & volunteering at an LA non-profit whose mission is to: "prevent, reduce & eliminate poverty, hunger and homelessness" (). Also, check out the shirt he wore doing it..
@districtofash
Maybe in that one picture, but there were plenty of bikes were forced into traffic because of this, including a cyclist who was HIT (police report filed). But, yeah, sure, clutching pearls here.
One final pull-in as a retirement celebration for one of
@DASHBus
's longest serving operators. Charles Barrett drove with DASH for more than 28 years!
The intersection at 11th & G SE is plagued by dangerous driving, especially as kids cross to get to school. Thank you
@allisonsmcgill
for putting up these signs. Now we just need
@DDOTDC
to do more to improve safety there.
Hi
@DCPoliceDept
one of your officers has been posted on the corner in my neighborhood for the past 4 hours. Whatever the reason is, that doesn't excuse the fact that their car has been on and idling for the entire time. That's incredibly wasteful and bad for the environment....
Walked home from Eastern Market along Penn Ave (7th to 14th) and counted 8 bikers passing by in the new bike lane, in the middle of the day. But you know, no one uses these bike lanes...
With the metro shutdown, I'm trying out one of the few northbound afternoon trains on
@VaRailExpress
- I love having this as an option. And it's free all September!
Had one of the scariest near misses this morning. Crossing M at First street, going from bike lane to bike lane, and an impatient driver ran the red light on M... I had to slam on the breaks to avoid them. I'm still shaking.....
When this place opened some neighbors assumed it would be a smoke shop given the name. Yes, there's tobacco products, but no more than a 7-11. It's really a convenience store. A small business trying to make it. If you need convenience store items, think about supporting them!
Hey
@DDOTDC
@311DCgov
@wmata
any chance we could get bus stop improvements here? Used to be a bench that neighbors put out themselves. Busy stop and it's right next to the Potomac Gardens Senior building, so a place to sit would be useful! Stop ID 1000587 (13th/Pennsylvania/G SE)

@charlesallen
cares deeply about our ward & city. Recall effort is unserious. Don't like him? Could've run against him. A successful recall would leave W6 unrepresented for months, in budget season. Those behind recall don't care about our ward or city, only attacking the CM.
Liam, who at almost 6 months old has already been to 5
@WashWizards
games, is thrilled the team is staying in DC. (He has opinions, obviously). But honestly, we couldn't have gone so often if CapOne wasn't in as an accessible a location as it is.
Former (emphasis on *former* there) 6B commissioner cozied up to pro-insurrection republicans who seek to repeal home rule and got a shout out from them....
For the record I am VERY supportive of more housing, especially for voucher holders. But blocking local buyers is what I have an issue with (and when it's a company flush with money from foreign investors it makes it hard for locals to afford housing).
