Yesterday, the ESU Scotland hosted our annual St Andrew's Day Debating Competition. After a riveting day of debates and an exciting final, the speakers declared our winners were Joe Jones and Mia MacGillivray from Portree High School. Congratulations!

Theme 2 is EMPOWERING WOMEN π© International organisations have made great strides in fighting sexism and strengthening women's rights worldwide. Why is women's empowerment important? And how can countries and international organisations work together to further this cause?

Theme 1 is SPACE EXPLORATION π Exploring space has many benefits, from the technological to the philosophical, but there are also many risks and barriers to navigate. Why should we care about space exploration? And how can countries work together in this area?

The themes for our preliminary heats each focus on a different topic. Pupils can choose whichever theme they like best, but must answer two questions in their speech: 'Why is this something people should care about?' and 'How might international cooperation help in this area?'
