The
@LACountyBOS
voted to delay implementation of SB43, which would have provided life-saving treatment for the thousands suffering and dying on our streets every day. The two year delay will now result in over 4,000 unnecessary deaths.
LA Park Rangers struggle to convince a severely mentally ill woman to briefly exit the toilet stall she’s living in so that it can be cleaned. California law prevents authorities from intervening to help the woman, so they eventually give up and walk away
LA Park Rangers have ceded a public area overlooking the ocean to a man who refuses to stop camping there. The pagoda was one of very few accessible spots where wheelchair users could go to get a closer view of the ocean, but is now closed to the public.
Santa Monica residents are woken up at 5:30am by a man in psychosis, screaming expletives at the top of his lungs. California law prevents authorities from intervening to help the man, so the residents and their children are left to suffer along with him.
Visitors to LA beaches should expect long lines and extensive wait times at public restrooms. Many of the facilities are closed to the public due to people living in the toilet stalls and repeatedly setting fire to the buildings.
Brand new restrooms next to a playground on the beach, which controversially cost over $2 million to build, are now closed to the public due to damage from people living in the stalls and repeatedly setting fires.

In 2016 LA residents overwhelmingly voted to tax ourselves $1.2 billion through Measure HHH, which advocates promised would “solve homelessness” by building govt housing. Today the unhoused population has exploded, barely any housing was built, and the money has been squandered.
🔥🧵 A thread of fires caused by the rampant unchecked spread of homeless encampments in Los Angeles. Over 50% of the calls LAFD responds to are due to these encampments. That number jumps to 80% in DTLA. Many of these fires are set by serial arsonists.
Why did
@LAPDPacific
allow an RV with invalid plates, illegally parked next to the beach for 2 yrs, to move one block over instead of being towed? Owner has no license, dumps raw sewage into the ocean, and was recently arrested for a firearm offense + assault in broad daylight.
Workers ask a man camping on the beach for permission to clean up the trash he threw on the sand. He tells them to leave him alone and says “I’m trying to play with my d**k over here.” He then allows them to clean the trash but orders them to give him any weed or drugs they find.
3 LAPD officers, 2 park rangers, 3 outreach workers, and 4 from LASAN attempt to have a man move his personal belongings temporarily so they can clean. He refuses, calls a ranger “fat ass” and screams at them until eventually everyone gives up and leaves
This guy gets kicked out of his free hotel room on the boardwalk, orders his dog to bite the guy kicking him out, then heads straight to the beach with all his stuff to set up a tent. This is why people don’t want homeless housing in their neighborhoods
Aggressive homeless on the boardwalk are now demanding rent payments from artists who set up in the vendor spaces. They say they “own the area” and apparently they do since no one is stopping them.
An elderly man, currently living in a toilet stall, refuses offers of housing and services. He makes it clear that he’ll only accept a furnished apartment by the beach.
Security footage of a homeless man near the boardwalk kicking a neighbor’s small dog into the metal claws of a tractor and casually walking away (censored)
@azcat92
They can and should put him on a 5150 hold and remove his personal belongings. It’s unclear who is ordering them not to follow the law. As usual in LA, there are many layers of bureaucracy, which make it difficult to get anything done.
Firefighters respond to multiple fires next to a homeless encampment near the boardwalk and across from a retirement home. LAFD has responded to this encampment repeatedly to put out fires. All of the fires are believed to have been intentionally set.
Imagine you’re out taking your dog for a walk and you come across a dead body. Then a few minutes later you get assaulted by a homeless man in psychosis. This is a day in the life of a Venice resident 😔
15 public employees from LAPD, LAHSA, and LASAN clean an encampment next to an elementary school. The campers refuse offers of housing and services, and instead move their tents around the corner. A new encampment is set up the very the next day.
While I’m sure it must be frightening for Macio to transition to living indoors, imagine how frightening it must have been for the elderly street performer that he brutally assaulted. He has young children back home in Ohio, but his “heart is set” on living in a tent in Venice.
A registered sex offender who moved to LA this summer to be homeless, has been arrested for sexually assaulting a minor in Santa Monica. This is who

6 LAPD officers respond to reports of a man screaming and threatening people on the boardwalk. 5 reluctant St. Joes outreach workers and 3 Circle team members are called to help. Eventually everyone leaves and the man goes back to his violent outbursts 🤦🏾♀️
🚨🚨 Heads up for anyone walking on Brooks Ave near Tacos Por Favor, especially if you have dogs. Apparently a man living in this van has two aggressive dogs (English Bulldog and American Pit Bull) that are running loose and attacking dogs walking by
@PDRScanner
The formerly public area has been closed for almost a full month during the busy summer season, to allow the man to have exclusive access. In previous interactions, the man was even more aggressive and screamed at the rangers and LAPD until they left him alone.

An elderly man stumbles around searching for his meth during a weekly cleaning by the Venice Pier. An outreach worker asks if he wants any services and he replies “yeah, meth.”
@lacontroller
Sounds like much ado about nothing. Is this really what you should be spending public money on with all the serious issues currently facing the city?
@stan_okl
It truly is amazing that someone can diagnose the problem so accurately, and then turn around and advocate for more of the same failed policies that led us to where we are today.
“California—the only state that went completely all-in on Housing First experienced a 47.1 percent increase in street-level homelessness since its 2016 adoption at the state level, and a 33.8 percent increase in homelessness overall.”
A homeless man on the boardwalk calls an LAPD officer a “dumb f*ing b*tch” after she asks him to clean up his personal possessions that are blocking the walkway. He then threatens the cameraman and tells him that if he doesn’t give him money he’ll throw his camera into the ocean.
@SenecaSpeaks21
Since our DA no longer prosecutes misdemeanors, all SMPD can do is force him to move to another area where he’ll continue doing the same thing. Santa Monica/LA residents have shot themselves in the foot by enabling this behavior in a misguided attempt to show compassion.

Everyone is reporting on the Grants Pass case incorrectly. The ordinance bans long term camping, but still allows sleeping in public parks. In no way does it “criminalize homelessness.” A 24 hr warning is given so people have a chance to pack up their things and accept services.
Unbelievable. An LADOT parking enforcement officer says they’ve been ordered by
@MayorOfLA
and
@LACityCouncil
to NOT ticket RVs that are illegally parked and/or have expired plates.
A SMPD officer asks a mentally ill homeless man where he’s from. He first says Florida, then seems to remember he’s supposed to say “from California” adding “I’m still learning how to answer questions I’ve been asked.”
Self-reported data shows most homeless are “from California”

can you share any information about this incident? Is this man still in custody or should Venice residents stop walking their dogs to prevent further attacks?
Two cleanings in two days on the sidewalk next to Whole Foods on Rose. Yet all the tents and junk are back the very next day blocking the entire sidewalk so that everyone has to walk in the street. All campers refuse housing and services and this is across the street from PSH.
7 more rubbish fires this morning in LA, all reported in just the past 37 minutes. The spontaneous combustion of rubbish is really becoming a problem in this city 🔥🔥
A man is arrested by the Venice Pier after being caught trying to steal beachgoers’ bags. A witness describes how the man, apparently experiencing psychosis, approached frightened sunbathers yelling “that bag is mine!” while grabbing at their bags.
A small dog that was kicked into the claws of a tractor by a violent homeless man, has succumbed to his injuries. The man also smashed a glass bottle over the head of a bystander who attempted to stop him from fleeing to the nearby boardwalk.
Instead of helping the homeless, or offering them a place to stay, extremist activists fight to maintain the status quo which leads to 6 severely ill people dying on the streets of LA every day. They believe this advances their social housing agenda.
Good morning from the Chatsworth Metro station! Caught these LAPD cops harassing people experiencing homelessness & threatening them w/ citations
#DefundThePolice
A man walking down the boardwalk with his genitals exposed was briefly detained by LAPD and then allowed to go on his way, despite refusing to pull up his pants. Officers say they are not allowed to arrest him, even though they personally witnessed the indecent exposure.
If we don’t allow people to commit suicide when they threaten to jump off a tall building, why do we allow them to kill themselves on our sidewalks? Anyone living on public land who refuses housing+services needs to be 5150’d and placed into treatment as an alternative to death.
A resident of the ABH facility films herself trespassing at a nearby yoga studio. She refuses to leave until an employee threatens to pepper spray her, then bangs on the locked doors and threatens the employees inside. ABH allows drug use and has no mental health requirements.
@VeniceWasteland
I wonder if they’ll allow the fire truck access to put out the fire this time, or if they prefer to burn the library down. Seems like surrounding residents should have a say, but I guess there are no laws in the Venice Autonomous Zone.
If public toilets are going to become de facto homeless shelters while the brand new multi-million dollar homeless shelter a few blocks away sits half empty, then I think it’s time for that shelter to be shut down. Clearly it’s so awful that people would rather live in a toilet.
@mikebonin
“I have grave concerns the settlement will push us in the direction of moving some people into shelters”
Oh how awful, moving people inside so they don’t die on the streets 🙄 Haven’t you done enough damage? Just resign already
The bike path along the boardwalk is slowly disappearing. Soon we’ll have to walk our bikes through the sand to make way for the storage of these important bags full of empty bottles and other various junk
@lacountyparks
Excellent work by
@LAPDPacific
to safely detain this armed woman and get her into an ambulance. As a danger to herself and others, she has absolutely no business living on the beach, but thanks to the
@LACountyBOS
who refuse to provide care, she’ll be back out there again soon.
@BowserHuell
Not true. The ruling says that people can’t be prevented from camping during certain hours if there is no alternative shelter available. It does not say that people can permanently take over public areas. Also, this man has repeatedly been offered housing and rejected it.
A drunk driver runs over a pedestrian on the boardwalk. LAPD officers are afraid to use force to stop the driver, so nearby citizens have to step up and do it for them.
A building near the Venice Boardwalk that was boarded up due to a fire, is broken into twice on the same day. During the second break-in the building is set on fire again.
A homeless man yells at SMPD, who are detaining him for reselling parking receipts. He says they can’t stop him and he wants to go back to prison because it’s “like a resort for him.” He says he’s a veteran and an addict, but refuses VA housing/services.
“Police say the RV wasn’t actually home to any unhoused individuals; rather, the two men used it with the sole purpose of of engaging in narcotics sales and consumption.”

A homeless man on the boardwalk was arrested after attacking several people with a pair of garden shears. A nearby vendor says the man was also seen hitting several dogs with a stick.
@AndyHrmnpriest1
I don’t live in Santa Monica Andy, but perhaps you can go and persuade this man to enter treatment so that the small children living in the apartment next to him can sleep again without being terrorized night after night?
These people know there will be zero consequences for this. Worst case scenario they’re asked to move and they find a new spot. Best case, they camp on the beach for a few days, and then they get a free hotel room on the beach for 6 months. We need
@LASDHQ
enforcement ASAP!
⚠️ Ax attack on the boardwalk ⚠️
This man was swinging an ax 🪓 at people on the boardwalk today in the middle of the afternoon on a busy weekend. He was taken in for a mental evaluation, but will likely be back on the boardwalk shortly.
Around 3:10 p.m. Sunday, officers were sent to Brooks Avenue and Ocean Front Walk after receiving calls of a suspect swinging an ax in the middle of the street, according to the LAPD.

Venice has more homeless services than any other neighborhood in the country. We’ve spent countless millions to provide housing. Yet when we speak up about our children being threatened in their own homes, “advocates” from across the country accuse us of “dehumanizing” people.
Not only do Mike Bonin and Erin Darling defend people that call city employees the N-word to their face, but they’re fighting to allow these same racists to be allowed to live in tents in front of our children’s schools and daycares! Vote
