New preprint out from @ErikClark01, @MBattistara and me! 🎉🎉🎉 “A timer gene network is spatially patterned by the terminal system in the Drosophila embryo” Jump straight to the #preprint ( https://t.co/K5gJqwQ86F) or join us here for a 🧵

In insects, patterning of the anteroposterior axis relies on exquisite coordination of segmentation gene expression in space and time. And yet, there is also wide variation across species in the...

it's 2022 and we're really saying this "we propose that two parasegment-like boundaries form sequentially from the tail region of the Drosophila embryo after gastrulation" I've known this for >1yr and it still 🤯 @MBattistara @ErikClark01

Incredibly happy to share our new preprint! Endogenous WNT allows BMP to act as a morphogen in time but not in concentration when inducing hPSC differentiation. A steep learning curve, but couldn’t have asked for a better mentor and colleagues!
New preprint: varying the duration of BMP causes differentiation to multiple fates but varying the concentration does not. Led by brilliant postdoc @elecamagu

Secreted morphogen signals play a key role in the determination of cell fates during embryonic development. BMP signaling is essential for vertebrate gastrulation, as it initiates a cascade of...

Being at Cambridge most of my academic life was great for seminars, but these EMBO EMBL meetings are already taking the cake. See you in May!

very curious to check this out
https://t.co/bbw5xtRwXr Finally, our @conrad_helm alternative open source workflow for 3D-visualization is out. It is highly modular and comes along with a step-step-guide for an easy walk through, imitation recommended #MicroscopyMonday

Really happy to share some of the work that came out of my PhD research with @SansonLab. Different temporal requirements for tartan and wingless in the formation of contractile interfaces at compartmental boundaries
journals.biologists.com
Summary: An unbiased screen to identify cell surface receptors at a Drosophila model boundary reveals that actomyosin enrichment at parasegmental boundaries requires Tartan during early germband...

Here our review on critical phenomena in embryonic organisation. Inspired by the physics of criticality, we propose that development is more than a sum of mechanochemical laws, and it needs to be approached, as a whole, as a critical system @embl @autcami

great thread!
The photos of Christiane Nüsslein-Volhard's 80th birthday and a photo sent in response by @daniodanionella sent me down a rabbi6 hole of memory and appreciation yesterday 1/15
