Glad to support @ucu action which includes ending gender pay inequality. For reference, here’s @BristolUni’s latest pay gap report https://t.co/Wltr0c2Z2Y and government summary https://t.co/O5GwXcUyxH 2/2

As a former researcher in HE I have first-hand experience of the hardship staff endure. But I also have hope & faith in the collective spirit & power of staff to bring about change. Solidarity with HE staff & @ucu. Read my full article in @tribunemagazine: https://t.co/7MpX6eIO0G

Any concessions won through taking strike action will benefit my postdocs, and any of of my students who stay in academia. One of the reasons I strike is because I want a good deal for them and the rest of my ECR colleagues. Striking is a direct act of care.

...But remember, kids, Strikes Don't Work, and the correct way to defend your working and living conditions is to do some other sort of thing which nobody ever quite manages to specify beyond that it's definitely not anything like calling a strike (because Strikes Don't Work).
🚨 We have *SUSPENDED* our strike next week. We have been offered a 10% pay increase over 2 years for staff earning <£44k per year and an 8% increase for staff earning >£44k per year. The major part of this is backdated. We will now consult members on this offer. #ucuRISING

Can’t believe I’m tweeting my dire financial situation - but here I am speaking at our @Bristol_UCU rally. Being a lecturer is an aspirational job, which we work towards for yrs - our pay doest reflect it. It’s not enough to raise a family. And I’m one of the lucky ones…
People ask me why retired old fart like me is so passionate about @ucu strikes Here is why encapsulated in a short video from wonderful young colleague @HanMGriffiths pay cuts & slashing of pensions was always going to hit younger Uni staff the most. @Bristol_UCU #ucuRISING RT🙏

Lake Malawi cichlids harbor a spectacular intra- and interspecific morphological diversity yet understanding of how early in ontogeny species-specific phenotypes emerge remains limited. A comparati...

Pleased to share the latest preprint from the Martin lab @evolvwing. We investigated continuous colour variation in Colias butterflies, and found that few large effect loci explain a large portion of the variation #colsci 1/

#Heliconius are some of the most charismatic butterflies you will find in the rainforest. They are also one of the most studied (although not by me). Here I am in Ecuador with one of my favourites, preaching about the fabulous work of @eohomo and the EBAB team! #brainevolution
