People accessing private health services reduces pressure on the NHS. NHS orgs selling private health services increases revenue into the NHS. Yet there seems friction between proponents of the two systems when collaborating more closely would serve all patients best.

A monopsony is a market condition in which there is only one buyer.

Normally money follows the talent but a lack of market forces in UK healthcare has chronically undermined clinical staff pay and working conditions. HCPs silently walking away from NHS jobs should be a bigger concern than industrial action as the effect is far more prolonged.

Urgent referral to social prescriber. Do not pass go, do not collect 200.
Just a reminder to health professionals, including myself, that telling someone in a high state of stress or mental breakdown to phone an agency for help with food, housing or benefits is often an impossible ask. It can leave patients feeling not only alone but useless.

Whatโs happening in the NHS is inevitable - just read my past tweets and those of the doctors and HCPs I follow. Logical outcomes shouldnโt be presented as unforeseen crises as thatโs just lying.

@DrKartikModha @rcgp @NHSEngland Because they know that the NHS will not exist in its current form for much longer. Because most trainees will look to work abroad or in the private sector. And thatโs okay. Thatโs more than okay.

@DrKartikModha @rcgp @NHSEngland Itโs worse than that. Access access access has reduced GPs capability and capacity to do the work that trumps that, which is complexity, multi morbidity and end of life care. Now hospitals overflowโฆ.but the voting public were conned by the false access promises. No one wins.

Totally agree! You can only provide a first world service with first world resources and staffing Currently the lowest levels of GPs - 2200 per patient #GPCrisis Blame MPs not GPs
Why does @rcgp train GPs to a fine dining level of service when @NHSEngland wants to place them in a fast food healthcare environment? Access is prioritised over bolstering continuity of care which has lead to endemic low morale, low satisfaction & attrition of GPs from the NHS

My thoughts are that if an antibiotic resistant strep A spread in the UK it probably wont have been hatched here because of our loose domestic antibiotic policy but because of a lack of screening at the border if there was a outbreak in another country with a much looser policy

My personal preference would be to err more on the side of caution on how we treat children as sepsis episodes which do not result in death (so are not reported) are very traumatic events for all concerned, hugely cost intensive & can be clinically significant long term

For debate: Government has previously paid NHS GP practices to reduce antibiotic prescriptions and studies show itโs important for avoiding antibiotic resistance at a personal & population level, hence the incentive.

At this point @Oohgpwales the POCT testing would be more targeted and it also saves the lab time and cost of a traditional swab as required by PHE. โฌ๏ธGP/OOH contacts The educational setting HCP role is one that is underdeveloped at present and has huge potential
