.@leicesterliz @UKLabour WHY do you refer to #PIP as an out of work benefit? IT ISN’T. People can claim PIP WHEN THEY WORK. This benefit can help people STAY IN WORK. This isn’t about getting disabled people working, it’s about saving money by targeting vulnerable people. #Shame.

So many of these #LivedExperience challenges resonate with me either at a personal level or I’ve seen it happen … again & again. Thank you @TheTealTigerUK for a brilliant thread, just sorry it has to be written. I am buoyed though that these discussions are starting to happen.

At @Moorfields for some treatment and very pleased to bump into my Moorfields surgeon Mr Daniel Ezra (one of the best and most human, down to earth surgeons I’ve ever met and I’m rather the #NHS veteran…). Hope we can engage in some #PPI #PatientInvolvement work soon!

Another brilliant on point article by @DrFrancesRyan. Just sad it has to be written at all… #PIP #Disability .‘UK ministers want to fob off disabled people with vouchers? It’s like government by Groupon’ | Frances Ryan
theguardian.com
What ministers herald as key reform would be laughable if it wasn’t so harmful, says Guardian columnist Frances Ryan

It’s another day and @Conservatives continue to vilify disabled people - please see facts about #PIP below. I can’t wait until this awful government is voted out.
Some facts about #PIP . 1. It is NOT an out-of-work benefit .2. The assessment & application process is hard. It is not "easy to claim".3. Only 40-45% of claims are successful .4. Getting the correct reward is difficult. Challenging it can take months.

Powerful piece by @DrFrancesRyan for @guardian about the exclusion of disabled children from school photos. #Ableism is desperately rife and its impact far reaching.
“That’s the thing with true ugliness. It does not come in the shape of a wheelchair or scars. It sits in prejudice, clawing its way into our culture until one day the nice man taking your child’s school photo asks her to hide her hearing aids.” . My col.

This is abhorrent. I see that @HTempestPhoto have posted an apology but turned the comments off. The school also has questions to answer here. It’s 2024 and disabled children (and adults) are still treated like second class citizens. When will it change? #discrimination.
Aberdeenshire council has apologised after parents were offered a choice of class photos with or without children with complex needs in them. Natalie Pinnell's daughter, who has additional support needs, told the BBC about what happened at Aboyne Primary.
