We are currently using up 1.7 Earth’s worth of the raw materials for building “renewables” - and are on the way to using 3 by 2050. We will run out of materials before we ever get to an energy transition under current plans. We need less growth and less energy usage.

So excited and humbled to be playing a small role in setting up the AmazonFACE experiment! This will study the response of some small areas of rainforest to higher CO2 concentrations It will help answer key questions on future carbon sinks and climate https://t.co/2kFIsGgFFm

12. There’s loads of information about the impacts of livestock farming, and the technologies and politics that could lead the transition away from it, in Regenesis, supported with abundant references.

Hugely important paper! "Global greening" since the 1980s actually reversed around the year 2000 The trend turned to "browning" in 90% of vegetated area due to climates becoming too hot and dry in many places Chen et al 2021 (including @ciais_philippe) https://t.co/jM4K4nb5Pc

Nestlé uses more than 2.8 billion pounds (1.3 million metric tonnes) of plastic each year 🥤🥤🥤🥤🥤🥤🥤- and only 1% of its entire packaging is reusable. Its plastic waste has been discovered in over 30 countries worldwide. The plastic pollution crisis is out of control! ✊🏽

Are meat substitutes really better for the climate than meat and dairy? It was surprisingly hard to find a dataset that answered this question, so I started building one. I show the results in my new Substack post. Spoiler: yes, most are lower-carbon. https://t.co/5iZ9rdkN0y

Yesterday, some of the best of humanity came together on the Aldersbrook in Ilford to uncover a river so choked in plastic & rubbish it had ceased to flow. With a day of difficult & tiring work, they managed to uncover the river & begin bringing it back to life.

Bone-headed & senseless decision. Govt says #SizewellC is vital to meet 2035 electricity decarbonisation target, but *its own impact statement* found we won't get supply for at least another 13-17 years - do the maths! Nuclear is hugely costly & simply can't help meet 2035 target

Have you noticed the weather? It’s warm enough to be summer. I find this more frightening than the economic mess the country is in, more frightening than my cancer.

The horrors of the war in Ukraine should not put #ClimateAction on the back burner. Doubling down on fossil fuels is not the answer. The only path to energy security, stable power prices & a livable planet lies in accelerating the renewable energy transition.
