We must hold on to 1.5°C, but that means governments need to do far more. With emissions still rising, the only path left is to return below 1.5°C after a temporary overshoot. A brief reflection with my PIK colleagues on where we stand and the road ahead:

Even limiting global warming to 1.6–1.8C would require far stronger policies to reduce fossil fuel emissions than those currently adopted by governments, which would allow the world to heat by at least 2.7°C, says PIK Director @jrockstrom at #COP30.
