The hotel I swim at put in automatic doors during lockdown. I hadnât realised how difficult I found the old doors until they werenât there any more. Disabled people cope with so much to problem solve barriers, it becomes second nature. We shouldnât have to internalise bad access.

Create spaces which enable disabled people to speak for themselves on their own terms, not be spoken for or about. Disabled people are the experts.

To all those supporting moves to be more green in our cities, please remember the solutions you champion are all either totally inaccessible to many disabled people or too expensive to be available to them. Bike - ÂŁ100 for a basic? Handcycle? ÂŁ2.5K minumum. For example.

Why is adaptive technology so clunky and ugly all the time? I may want accessible technology, but I would quite like it to be sleek and lightweight and attractive! Just like all the tech marketed at the mass public.

There are numerous tried and tested benefits to making your site accessible but above all else, itâs just the right thing to do. Inaccessibility leads to exclusion. That statement alone should motivate change.
