National Audit Office report says hospices in England hit by falling income after allowing for inflation and some have been cutting staff jobs and services.  Hospice UK representing the sector says without more government funding there could be a wave of further cutbacks.

When the new government was elected I think all of us in the #NHS had high hopes of a turnaround. Sadly, the opposite is true. In over 27 years working as a doctor I have never known morale so low.

NHSE’s winter plan is inadequate. 500k patients waited >12hrs in English EDs Jun-Sep alone. Our knackered ED teams are looking for lasting action so we have beds for our patients, not non-existent “quick wins,” job freezes, and managers playing “war games”

This does now leave the crisis hit CQC looking for another CEO - the care watchdog has been in a mess now for too long and is one of the few supposed safeguards patients have. Crucial it picks itself up and gets back to its core mission - and resisting any Govt/NHSE interference.

CQC boss Julian Hartley has resigned from CQC in the wake of the Govt announcing an inquiry into maternity at his old trust. This was always going to be a problem for him - he had recused himself of any decisions on Leeds while at CQC but it was getting more difficult. 1/2
