I don't think there's an actual hedge for the collapse of governments or society besides weapons. The riches most of us enjoy are dependent on trade and cooperation. If that collapses it doesn't matter how many shiny rocks you own, you're going to be poor.

Bitcoin has gone up during a time where almost nothing bad has happened and when bad things have happened it has gone down. This thesis is not supported by any evidence besides speculation of what happens when governments/society collapses (big if!).
