In my degree I remember being inspired by projects funded by @saveourseas so its a mini full-circle moment to see myself listed as a project leader (complete with sketch portrait) for them this year! Read about our project here: https://t.co/uB7QnjK9C9 @ZSLScience @ProjectSIARC

🦈 Tope Tracking Update! 2 female tope sharks, tagged in Cardigan Bay this summer, have been detected 100+ miles away in the Bristol Channel! Thanks to @SwanseaUni for alerting us to the detections, helping to learn more about tope movements around the UK coastline.

Fascinating to join a #CSIoftheSea with CSIPs @strandings_man last week on two Angelsharks that were found on a North Wales beach in 2023. Samples from the sharks will provide vital health, diet + genetic data from the Welsh population @ProjectSIARC @angelshark2014 @ZSLMarine

After a few weeks off, I've returned to the news that 2 of our #tope have been recorded in South Wales/England! Fantastic to get 1st detections and insight into connectivity between MPA's in Wales + England. Where will our sharks go next? #NNF3 #fishsci @ProjectSIARC @ZSLMarine

Slowly working towards my @_BTO ringing permit in my spare time. Much more arduous task than my Home Office licence for fish tagging! Thrilled to have rung my first kingfisher a few weeks ago, though. What a beauty #birds #ringing #kingfisher

We did not find impacts of 'winter' temperature on smolt quality but did see beneficial impacts of short daylengths on osmoregulation and growth and feeding which was associated with modified metabolism of smolts. Read more here: https://t.co/Dc8w5NUa3P @AAC_Association

We assessed impacts of our treatments on smolt quality and performance by measuring osmoregulation, growth and feeding, and metabolism from the end of 'winter' treatments to 1 month after seawater transfer.

Next - I led work published in #Aquaculture to investigate combined use of a reduced temperature and short daylength photoperiods as 'winter' treatments to enhance #smolt quality in Atlantic salmon.

1st work led by Gam Le in #JFB investigated whether short term acute #CO2 exposure that occurs during transportation of salmon from hatcheries to marine grow out sites impacts upon osmoregulation after seawater transfer in 3 different sizes of smolts.
