Stopped off on route to relay recover this adult male Welsh stranded porpoise with my CSIP colleague @MatthewWestfie3- and just recovered this neonate porpoise which stranded and died yesterday at Sheppey, Kent. Heading back to @ZSLScience now, #CSIOfTheSea exams to follow soon!

On the way back from Cornwall- dropped off 10 years worth of #commondolphin samples to help support our @UniofExeter colleague Kate Chadwick's PhD research. And recovered samples collected by our CSIP colleague James Barnett from recent #CSIOfTheSea investigations in Cornwall.

Not a species that CSIP usually work on. This beaver was found at Polzeath, Cornwall over the weekend- our CSIP colleague James Barnett and his CMPT team carried out a #CSIOfTheSea examination for our friends at #DRAHS in @ZSLScience. Glad we could help out, great work all!

MY CSIP colleague @Perkins16Matt is also on the road today- recovering this porpoise from Devon and relay recovery with @MatthewWestfie3 of a common dolphin found stranded in Pembrokeshire. On the way back to @ZSLScience, #CSIOfTheSea exams to follow over the next few days.

On the road in East Anglia yesterday- delivered samples to our friends @CefasGovUK to support @RosieSWilliams1 research on the impact of contaminants- and then on to recover a porpoise found stranded earlier this year. Back at @ZSLScience now, #CSIOfTheSea exam to follow soon.

Dolphin also found with stalked barnacles on fluke trailing edges. Likely to be this one 👇, we've seen before in a few other striped dolphins. Collected for research by colleagues at @NHM_London

Two cetaceans found stranded on the Saudi Red Sea coast this year #CSIOfTheSea examined last week with support from @KAUST and @NCW_center colleagues. Young Risso's and a pantropical spotted dolphin. The spotted dolphin was the skinniest dolphin I've ever seen.

Very interesting experience last week in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia- worked with colleagues from @KAUST and @NCW_center to help deliver demonstration #CSIOfTheSea examinations and take part in a workshop on strandings response and investigation.

Harbour porpoise we #CSIOfTheSea examined together found dead stranded at Dymchurch, Kent on 11th April. Encircling linear mark around the head, notches on fins and flukes and damage to tail stock all clear evidence of #bycatch. Many thanks to @BDMLR volunteers for their help!

Hosted a visit at @ZSLScience this week for a team of marine specialists from @NaturalEngland. Carried out a #CSIOfTheSea examination of a stranded porpoise with my CSIP colleague @Perkins16Matt and discussed ongoing and future collaboration on #bycatch and other pressures.

Really pleased to see this important #CSIOfTheSea paper published today in @CommsBio. Lead authored by my CSIP colleague @RosieSWilliams1 as part of the ChemPop consortium programme- overlapping pressures of climate change and chemical pollutant exposure on UK common dolphins. .
📢New paper out today!. Why are we seeing an increase in infectious disease cases in UK-stranded common dolphins?🐬☠️. We found sea surface temperature and pollution are associated with an increased risk of dying from infectious disease. 🔗 @CommsBio

Also managed to pick up a seal too. Sad case, chronically ring-necked in plastic material- one of several such cases in the nearby colony. Sadly didn't make it, despite great attempt to help it by @BdmlrYorksLincs. Heading back to @ZSLScience #CSIOfTheSea exam to follow soon.
