#MemberSpotlight @OceanExplauren studies shark olfaction & how sharks are affected by the antipredatory chemical defenses of their prey. Specifically, she looks at how ink from California sea hares, cuttlefish, and pygmy sperm whales acts as a naturally occurring shark repellent.

Here co-founder’s Jasmin and Amani bring a nurse shark on deck for our workshop participants to complete a workup on it. Unlike the other species we caught, nurse sharks are buccal pumpers which means they can move water over their gills without needing to swim.

#FundraisingUpdate : We want to thank everyone who spread the word & donated. This weekend's launch was a huge success. We raised $16,630 this weekend & received an additional $2,500 pledge. Our original goal for the YEAR was $25,000. We made it 80% of the way there in 1 weekend!
