IGN's Director of Reviews. Due to Elon's insistence on making this place worse on a near-daily basis I don't really post here anymore - Find me on Bluesky.
This is super impressive but I have to wonder why my carrying capacity doesn't go up on low-gravity planets and down on high-gravity planets. It's measured in mass.
Bullet casings in Starfield have different physics in low gravity versus normal gravity.
The attention to detail in Starfield is second to none.

In the five years Since 2014, EA has published four games that've earned a score of 9.0 or higher at IGN:
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
Apex Legends
Titanfall 2
Battlefield 1
Three of those were made by Respawn.
I pledge to quit my job if anybody can offer any credible evidence that IGN has accepted a bribe to give a review score, high or low.
Spoiler alert: I'll be at work tomorrow.
The message I hope EA, Bethesda, and every other publisher take away from the botched launches of Anthem and Fallout 76 is that the definition of “minimum viable product” is not what they think it is.
OHIO: Anti-vaccine *expert* witness claims vaccine causes forks and keys to stick to your forehead and it’s linked to 5G network towers…. Up there trying to out-Tennessee us! 😵💫🥴
In case it hasn't been said enough: *I* was the one who wrote "Too much water." I had to fit the complaints about navigating the map and elemental balance into a tight word count, and I thought it was concise. Not something that'd follow a woman around for the rest of her career.
Out of curiosity, I went back and checked. The Xbox-exclusive games I've reviewed at IGN are:
Gears Tactics (8 vs 80 on MetaCritic)
Dead Rising 3 (8.3 vs 78 on MC)
Halo: Spartan Assault (5.8 vs 53 MC)
State of Decay 2 (7.5 vs 66 MC)
...So consistently slightly above the average.
For those wondering, the reason IGN Italy, IGN Spain, IGN Japan, etc sometimes give games higher or lower scores than we do is that their reviews are written by completely different human beings.
I sense a disturbance in the Force - as if millions of gamers all at once let out a sigh of relief that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is as good as it looked.
Here’s my review:
To aid in the ongoing debate over game difficulty, I've created a logo for people who insist that someone else playing a game on easy mode diminishes their own experience of playing on hard.
Tell me you didn't bother to read (or watch) the review you're super mad about without telling me you didn't bother to read (or watch) the review you're super mad about.
As a Fallout fan since 1998 and someone who gave Fallout 4 a 9.5, I'm fully ready to proclaim Fallout 76 a disaster for the series.
Fallout 5 needs to be a comeback. It can't be more of the same - it needs to reinvent some wheels. I really hope Bethesda knows this already.
@DestinLegarie
If Sony didn't think Final Fantasy was going to sell any copies on Xbox it wouldn't have bothered to pay Square Enix to not make an Xbox version.
@haveyouseen01
You weirdos are legitimately insane. You may not be able to separate criticism of a multi-trillion-dollar corporation from the games its subsidiaries produce, but I sure as hell can. That is some straight-up nutjob thinking.
Microsoft could've done nothing at all and all Zenimax/Bethesda games would've come out on Xbox. It could've offered them day 1 on Game Pass, like it has done with EA Play, for a LOT less than $7.5 billion. The only reason to *buy* Zenimax is to make its games Xbox exclusive.
Within a month I've had two different publishers attempt to restrict what we can publish about a game for several days *after* it's been fully released to the public in "early access."
No thanks! We'll buy our review copy and say whatever we please whenever we feel like it.
@XcloudTimdog
How much did I hate the Bethesda deal, exactly? Can I just not like something and think it's not in the interest of consumers without stamping my feet and declaring war on Microsoft? Is that a thing that is possible to do, or is this an all or nothing deal in your mind?
@ThatEnglishGent
Men in WWI never bunny-hopped across the battlefield to resurrect a squadmate who'd been blown up by artillery fire by injecting them with a syringe while voice-chatting with their team from across the map, either. And this is what bothers you?
I guess we won’t have a review of Planet Zoo at launch because one preview in Sept wasn’t enough for Frontier, and they’ve declined to send copies because we didn’t “support Planet Zoo throughout the campaign.”
I honestly can’t recall having gotten a response like that before.
If you support what Trump’s talking about right now you can’t call yourself a Republican or a conservative. You can’t even call yourself American.
He wants to “dominate” Americans through violence. This is straight-up authoritarianism.
It has to stop.
IMO, the video review we're putting up for Death Stranding tonight is one of the best IGN has ever made. Whether you end up agreeing or disagreeing with the verdict, it's a damn entertaining review.
All credit to

I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened.
I strongly encourage you to read the review you're angry about. It will answer many questions you have.
Spoiler alert: I literally said that I like it.
@DanStapleton
Doesn't matter that you gave it a 7. The game is a big-time event for gaming. In history. Especially in 2023. Your review is giving you the attention. That IGN doesn't get like it used to. Enjoy your small 15 minutes of fame. STARFIELD will be talked about and played for years.
One aspect of the new Star Wars trilogy I haven't been a big fan of is the rebranding of everything.
Rebellion/Republic->Resistance
Empire->First Order
Sith->Whatever Snoke/Kylo Ren are
Jedi->Skywalker
Different names for functionally the same groups feels a little pointless.
Same here. My family and I are lucky enough to be financially secure, and not in need of a tax cut. Now I’ll get one, at the expense of millions who really do need it. It’s not right.
#MAGA
folks who are cheering this
#TaxScamBill
and trying to troll me, listen up. This will probably help my family due to our income bracket. I'm angry because it SCREWS YOU, millions of middle class Americans, and an entire generation now saddled with a $1.5 trillion debt.
If MS planned to release games like Starfield and Elder Scrolls 6 on PS5 Phil would've said so already. There *will* be anger and backlash when they're formally MS exclusives, so I think he's just avoiding that negativity until after XSX launches.
Criticizing a review score for being above or below the meta average is based on the flawed assumption that the meta average score is somehow "correct," when in fact it's the product of a bunch of scores that are both higher and lower than it is and could not exist without them.
You can absolutely 100% find and capture Legendary uruks in the wild in Shadow of War, without paying for loot boxes. This asshole killed me last night, in fact.
@GenePark
Thanks for saying so! Yours is also a great read.
It's actually kind of hilarious to me that they're still rage-tweeting at me when they could literally be playing Starfield instead.
Got dang those RTX 3080 numbers are impressive. That's a real generational leap over the 2080 Ti! Nearly 2X the performance for less than half the price.
Nvidia just announced its new slate of next-generation graphics cards, including the $1,499 GeForce RTX 3090 that is purportedly capable of running games at 60 fps in 8K.
Since everybody's been announcing their big October releases this week, I guess I should announce mine: lil' Stapleton
#2
is targeting a mid-October launch. Get out of the way, Red Dead!
Fathers' Day seemed like a good time to casually mention this :)
EA announcing Anthem's "day-one patch" is coming out two days early only serves to highlight the fact that it's actually a day-six patch and that they really should stop repeating the lie that this game isn't out yet.
@N7joke
I'm sorry, is your question "How could someone like a game more than I do?"
Easy: because it's the opinion of a different person, who again, is not you.
Honestly, people who're mad that we reviewed the PC version of Cyberpunk first and led them to believe the console versions would be the same are just admitting they don't actually read or watch reviews.
@XcloudTimdog
Also, I don't run IGN social, but if it makes you feel better: that's my opinion and F off if you don't like it.
I will show this to everybody here and make sure they know never to trust you again, because why would you even throw that out? What did you gain?
@gtconway3d
We got the wrong angle in Boston! The cops were just helping that elderly gentleman to the ground so that he could bleed from his ears like he wanted.
Last night one of my cats, Ninja, curled up in my clothes hamper to sleep... and didn't wake up. Just yesterday she was meowing and cuddling up a storm, as she has for the past 14 years - no sign she was sick. She was our kitten 'til the day she died. We'll miss you, Little Ninj.
February 15, 2019 is now officially nutso bonkers crazytown game release day:
Far Cry: New Dawn
Metro Exodus
Crackdown 3
Jump Force
Dead or Alive 6
And Anthem *says* it's coming out on the 22nd but all EA's release dates are lies now so it'll probably be out then, too.
In the spirit of a new decade of games, movies, TV shows, and comics, we're making a big change to our review scoring system.
Here's what we're changing – and why.
The only PlayStation exclusive things I've reviewed are:
PlayStation VR Worlds (6 vs 59 MC)
Infamous: First Light (7.5 vs 73 MC)
Basically right on the money. (I don't do too many console exclusives 'cause I'm mainly a PC guy.)
A round of applause in the IGN office for
@BrandinTyrrel
, who just beat the final boss of Dead Cells on his 65th run. We'll have his review up by the end of the day tomorrow.
That said, I don't subscribe to the theory that the Metacritic average is the "correct" score for anything. It's totally okay to be higher or lower - the entire point of averaging them out is that there's a range!
Even if Biden wins (and I'm still confident that he will) it's appalling that so many people in this country can look at Donald Trump and how he's conducted himself and say "Yes, I'd like more of that please."
So many people are so fundamentally broken.
Man I hate this stuff. Forza Horizon 5's *actual* release date is November 5 - it just gets a price drop from $80 to $60 on the 9th. And it's actually on Game Pass on day 4, not day 1.
Our 4-year-old screamed at us at the top of his lungs constantly for almost two hours tonight but after having been a games critic with a Twitter account it was honestly kind of refreshing.
What an absolute disgrace of a debate. Trump is an ass.
Of course neither candidate looked good. How do you look good when you’re supposed to discuss policy with a rabid orangutan as it’s hurling its shit at you while furiously masturbating?
@DMC_Ryan
Seems pretty ballsy for the guy who made sure Street Fighter 5 never came out on Xbox to complain about making a historically multiplatform series into an exclusive. This is not the first time this sort of thing has happened, on either side.
A confusing thing about reviewing a game in a series is that usually someone else reviewed the previous ones. So with Mario Wonder, we tried a new thing: I had
@DMC_Ryan
include his own ranked list of Mario platformers so you can see where he'd place it.
Still mad I can't watch The Batman on my TV tonight. I don't wanna drop $100 to spend four hours away from my kids.
The $30 rate for Black Widow was totally reasonable. Can't we just do that?
Having worked with Norse and Elder Futhark iconography for years, I’m quite alert to the glyph shapes and their associations in the modern world and history.
So, why is the
#CPAC2021
stage an Odal rune, and specifically one with serifs (or wings) that was used by the SS?
