Big take away from the conversation, we as educators need to remain humble as we learn more about, not just how students learn to read, but also the most effective way to teach students to read. As we learn more information we need to change practice. Stay humble.

I love everything about @unboundedu #StandardsInstitute which is why I keep coming back. Having @lacrob and @ehanford speak today though is one of the highlights of my week. We must do better to help all students learn to read.

A nugget from #StandardsInstitute from @lacrob "People do better when more is expected of them." What am I expecting of students, all students.

@MrZachG @HKorbey @rpondiscio egg-zactly The level of nuance required to reach all kids requires researched-based and thoughtfully-crafted materials, assessments, and tools. Wanting teachers to do it all seems disconnected from the reality of the job, and likely rooted in politics and insecurity.

@HKorbey @rpondiscio I do worry that many teachers, my early career self included, have been misled to believe that “canned curriculum” are an affront to their autonomy. I think this is silly, personally, as the decision making involved in teaching even with materials on hand is still very taxing

This is what the day looks like after teachers and leaders get so jazzed about math learning that they spend planning time coming up with all the ways scholars might make sense of fractions! #JoyinLearning @DanHorn12 @AchievementNet

If I were teaching a journalism or speech and debate class, this would be required material. The preparation, set up and delivery by Jon Stewart is masterful.
State Sen. Nathan Dahm (R-OK) has penned several bills loosening gun restrictions, including the nation’s first anti-red flag law. He thinks these bills protect the Second Amendment – and that they make us safer. We think it's probably one or the other. Watch it on @AppleTVPlus.

I was honored to represent @Ch_JesusChrist today at the @NBACares All-Star Day of Service. We had the great pleasure of welcoming NBA players, families, and executives to the Bishops Central Storehouse in Salt Lake City.

So why is the Simple View of Reading simple but simultaneously complex? Well it's simple because it confirmed that both decoding and language comprehension are necessary for reading success. It's complex because acquiring and integrating all the parts is very complex! 👇
