This is one of the things I appreciate about Jesus: he doesn’t teach that we pursue happiness or love ourselves, but rather that the most important things we can do in life are others-focused:. 1. Love God with everything we have .2. Love other people as we love ourselves.

Happiness is an emotion which, if you pursuit, flees from you. I think there’s no more consistent way to enjoy happiness than to focus on the wellbeing and others. The idea that we should focus on ourselves above all else is a disaster. Self focus is a recipe for hopelessness.

God has been wildly good to me. Like my uncle says “There is no universe in which I could produce a life this blessed.”.
