Continuing down the FC “Raynarde Hole”. “Farewell, Farewell” was originally released in 1979, and had been recorded on what was then their final tour. Re-issued a few times, it now includes the “Rubber Band” 45, which had a glowing review in the Sunday Post!

Despite the sacrifice of 200,000 Polish soldiers in the West and the deaths of six million civilians, the Western Allies ignored Poland’s future at Yalta, leaving it under Soviet domination, which brought poverty and repression to the entire nation. https://t.co/0Ub1GIB1T0

"Lying in bed with the lights out, I had to remind myself that the dragon was only a bedtime story one, not a real one. I had to reassure myself that all was safe by staring at the little orange strip of light that ran along the bottom of the door." ~C.R.Milne

This afternoon’s listening. After the end of the “Fotheringport Confusion” lineup and the “Gottle O’Geer” misfire, the return of Si Nicol led to the 4 piece FC recording these two albums. More muscular than their immediate predecessors, and a return to “trad, arr”.

“When you wake up in the morning, Pooh,” said Piglet, “what’s the first thing you say to yourself?” “What’s for breakfast?” said Pooh. “What do YOU say, Piglet?” “I say, I wonder what’s going to happen exciting today?” Pooh nodded thoughtfully. “It’s the same thing.” ~A.A.Milne

This evening’s listening. Pretty similar to their set when I saw them back in the dim & distant. This is the newly remixed version.

“February comes when we are sick of winter. Wishing to do her best, she ventures her spring costume: crocus, primrose and daffodil days. Ah no! We know March is to come with its frosts, a plunge back into the winter which poor February tried to flatter us was over.”~A.A.Milne

“An animal who carries her family about with her in her pocket! Suppose I carried my family about with me in my pocket, how many pockets should I want? 17?” said Rabbit. “And one more for a handkerchief - that’s 18. 18 pockets in one suit! I haven’t time.” ~ A.A.Milne

“Hallo, Eeyore,” said Christopher Robin. “How are you?” “It’s snowing still,” said Eeyore gloomily. “So it is.” “And freezing.” “Is it?” “Yes,” said Eeyore gloomily. “However,” he said, brightening up a little, “we haven’t had an earthquake lately.” ~A.A.Milne

Now listening to this. Some of Sandy Denny’s best writing. Includes their 1st album, the 38 yrs in the finishing second, live and studio material. 4/5 of the band would play with Fairport-3 at the same time.

Where should they dig the Very Deep Pit? Piglet said that the best place would be somewhere where a Heffalump was, just before he fell into it, only about a foot further on. “But then he would see us digging it,” said Pooh. “Not if he was looking at the sky.” -A.A.Milne

New music Pt.2. Anyone expecting another “Piledriver” is going to be disappointed. It’s a Francis Rossi solo, with his own identity stamped on it.

First new music of the day. One of the best gigs I’ve ever attended was Cast at Alloa Town Hall. This album continues in the tradition of John Powers’ fine song writing, with added experiments with strings, brass & P.P.Arnold.

TEENAGERS LEARN TO SWIM (1972): A true hall of fame PIF which became as much a part of the fabric of the 1970s as Spangles, Space Hoppers, and strikes. "I wish... I wish I didn't keep losin' me birds!" Dave there, kicking off the male loneliness epidemic.
