@WeAreUnidosUS's poll on Latino voters' views about the administration's first months asked them to assess its immigration policies. And broadly, they'e turning against its overreaches while maintaining their desire for a balanced approach to this issue
unidosus.org
Latino voters continue to support balanced immigration reform and reject harsh enforcement policies that threaten families, values, and the rule of law.

One thing to track is the extent to which DHS incorporates this approach into all forms of immigration adjudications, including for border arrivals and individuals seeking visas and green cards. It may not happen often, but the WH clearly has opened the door for this practice.
JUST IN: Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s lawyers say the Trump administration is trying to coerce him to plead guilty to the charges he is facing by promising to deport him to Costa Rica — and threatening to deport him to Uganda if he doesn’t.

Raya effectively operates a lot like “merit-based” immigration channels. And while some may laugh at taking policy ideas from a dating app, pulling out applicants from backlogs based on changing economic and policy needs can serve as one plank for tackling the green card backlog

Ambiguous terms have formed the harder edges of the immigration system’s operations. Good moral character, aggravated felonies, and public charge are the historic examples but we may see pushes to create new terms for similar purposes that extend beyond statute and its rules.
NEW: McCarthyism returns to immigration law, as @USCIS announces that it will begin screening applicants for immigration benefits for "Anti-America ideologies or activities." The term has no prior precedent in immigration law and its definition is entirely up to the Trump admin.

This has significant implications for enforcement efforts. Non-citizens sent $93 billion in formal remittances in 2024, $62.5 billion going to Mexico. @helen_dempster has noted 40 million green card holders, temporary visa holders, and undocumented individuals send remittances.
Immigrant Sent Cash To Family In Mexico; ICE Used That To Nab Him On Oʻahu. Experts say it’s the first time they know of that money transfer records have been used to trace someone purely for reentering the U.S. illegally, in this case 17 years ago.

Having lived in Madrid and visited Spain multiple times, having my quote appear in this piece is meaningful. I still have fond memories of picking up paper copies from the news stand near my apartment in Plaza España, so 2008 version of me would be happy

To my earlier point about the news @KathleenBushJo2 shared about the court decision against HHS sharing Medicaid data with DHS for enforcement, the implementation of this decision may establish grounds successfully filing a lawsuit against the measure once it impacts individuals.

This decision is important because it marks the first major instance where the courts have limited the administration's efforts to use personal data to boost its interior enforcement efforts, one that could portend similar restrictions on using IRS data to meet these policy goals.

There’s no real way to talk about establishing viable pathways for future migration events or retaining talent without addressing David’s point. Something that moves this slow isn’t designed to meet either goal, much less meet the immediate needs of processing these benefits.
My latest report: Employer-Sponsored Green Card Processing Takes 3.4 Years. If you want to understand why becoming an American is such a disaster, look at just how long the bureaucracy takes to push around paperwork. This is a dumpster fire. Burn it down!

This is going to be a space to watch as the administration begins using the funds from the reconciliation bill to meet its immigration policy goals, especially when it comes to less obvious areas such as funding staff to increase the number of deportation flights.
A US appeals court ordered the Trump administration to resume publicly sharing data on how it is spending federal dollars -- with one judge writing separately to blast the government for suddenly and unilaterally refusing to follow a law that requires transparency.

As someone who lived in Madrid and visits it regularly, I can readily and firmly say Barajas is infinitely better than Dulles on this issue. And I can readily and firmly say the crew probably used saucier language among themselves when describing this system in Spanish.
At Dulles, Iberia flight crew over intercom explaining delay to Madrid-DC passengers waiting to deplane:. “They have a very abnormal system to take passengers to the terminal.”.
