Because of the regulations/ restrictions that will soon be coming from Leinster House, I have ordered pizza for tonight even though it’s only Monday. I will drink some wine too. In your face, pandemic!!!
Not a great news day, folks but take a second to congratulate 2 great independent bookshops
@gutterbookshop
&
@CompanyofBooks
both celebrating 11 years in business this week. Both tireless champions of books, authors & their communities

This is a road in Cabinteely, Co Dublin. It’s about 500m from the house where ‘Albert Nobbs’ was filmed. I really hope someone pointed this out to Glenn Close during the filming . . .
Anyone feel like learning a poem off by heart over the next few weeks for a bit of distraction? I’m going try learning ‘The Listeners’ by Walter de la Mare. It was a favourite when I was a kid

Sad day today for the book trade. We lost a heroine to many of us. Margaret Daly was warm, kind, supportive to authors, colleagues and friends. I met her when I was a bookseller & when I became a publicist she was always there with solid advice & a smile. R.I.P.
For the last few years myself and my pal
@sineadgleeson
got our pic taken at the
@AnPostIBAS
- this was last year after she won Non-Fiction book of the year for her brilliant

. We’ll get 2 pics taken next year. Best of luck to all the author’s shortlisted tonight
Advice from the great Kevin Barry ‘It’s hugely important for me not go online in the morning—if I slip into that jittery, rabbit-brained, mouth-breather online mode, I just won’t write any useful fiction that day’
@canongatebooks
I read this on hols last week and I know I’m 58 years behind ‘The Prime Of Miss Jean Brodie’ curve but it’s one of the best books I’ve ever read. Funny, unsettling & way ahead of its time. You all have my permission to take the day off & read it.

@rickoshea
put it very well, ‘Stoke on Trent’s loss was our gain!’ Ps last time I was at 10th birthday - I got Rice Krispie buns. Much better fare tonight !!
‘Together these works showcase the breadth of what world literature can do, while gesturing at the unease of our moment.’
We are delighted to reveal the

And
@CormacKinsella
was my pal before he was my publicist. He champions books by other publishers all the time and his instagram cookery videos are legendary (as are his impressions). One of my favourite people. 💛
‘This is how grief feels: there is a heaviness in the chest. An iron ring around the heart. Tears on the bubble behind the eyes. Sometimes an empty feeling in the stomach’ beautiful extract from Éilís Ní Dhuibhne’s memoir
@BlackstaffNI
This has been on the ‘I’d really love to read’ list for years. This might be the 3rd copy I’ve owned. Started last night and it’s a wonder.

Borrowing library books and having the librarian take both book tickets out of the inside cover - file one - and then put the other in your library wallet. Then stamp the book with INK
Very proud of my great pal
