2024 was the warmest year on record with an average global temp. 1.6°C above pre-ind. level. It's the first year to exceed 1.5°C above pre-ind. level, with every month but one since July 23 surpassing this threshold. Full Global Climate Highlights 2024: https://t.co/s3JeRjZUyg

In a remote Philippine rainforest, I once entered a glade of giant ferns - thicker than a human thigh - slowly uncoiling themselves like snakes.

Short sprint in rain+wind across a Weybridge Heath for #NewYearPlantHunt as needed air rewarded with several bizarrely blooming Climbing corydalis plants (Ceratocapnos claviculata) on fairly recently created banks of earth (the close-up confused my smartphone camera!)

Wonderful to see so many inter-generational plant hunts taking place this year, what a great way to support and inspire budding botanists! #NewYearPlantHunt @BSBIbotany
A great inter-generational #NewYearPlantHunt today to finish things off, with 8 hunters aged 2 to considerably older searching round our village, and 28 spp. found in flower! Highlights were American Speedwell and Keel-fruited Cornsalad, both recent additions to the village flora
