Dear student-athletes: BE AN ASSET to wherever you must perform. This is what your sports are supposed to teach you. Play all roles well!

Absolutely inspiring
"Death is undefeated, but I'll take it to three overtimes. That's strength." Houston strength coach Kurt Hester was diagnosed with Stage IV melanoma. Six months later, he may have lost his hair, but not his indomitable spirit. More from @JenLada:

Some of the most fun I’ve ever had on a podcast! Appreciate @StrCoachNetwork for giving so many of us the platform to voice opinions and give strength coaches actionable items to better ourselves and this field!
At Harvard, they manage 40+ varsity teams. At Towson, we had 19. No matter the school, scheduling the weight room is always a battle. In our latest episode, @kylejacksic dropped a brilliant strategy to solve this problem. Simple, scalable, and effective. Full convo here:

Some spinal engine work that has been a major focus within our training programs, especially at @X2_Baseball. The human spine is much more complex than we give it credit for. The people who can do these well are usually our best movers. Little by little 📈 Follow the ‘gram….

Going through the motions mid-season may be inevitable, unless you’re aware and decide to keep the athletes in the zone and looking forward to the warm-up. New mobility movements, COD drills, reaction drills, pre-game competitions— and even dances! ENGAGEMENT IS EVERYTHING.

Keep the main thing the main thing, in principle — as it pertains to warm up sequence, but change some of the overall movement selection and learn to re-engage the fun, visualization/imagery, and importance to the team you’re working with.

It is important to identify when movements seem monotonous for athletes and when even your “high-energy” speeches are in one ear and out the other from past games.

Throughout the season, athletes even at the collegiate level will get “a little lazy” with the pre-game warm-up routine. However, it is utterly important that engagement remains at a high for mental and movement prep.

Shout out to @DelawareStateFB I hope this is a big turn-around year for this program. Every sports program deserves to know what winning culture feels like!

While coaches rightfully tend to question the physical efficiencies of 🏈 off-season drills, there can be a time and place to show true physical grit, even if it’s not position/sports specific- especially for a new staff to witness a players’ willingness to compete and finish.

This‼️ it all adds up. Plus, as coaches, we are building life long consciousness by teaching them how to be as prepared as possible —- as well as how to minimize/avoid unnecessary bodily stress, mentally and physically.
Coaches, just a daily reminder to teach your athletes the basics outside of their sport when it comes to athletic performance. You’d be surprised how many convos I’ve had about gaining weight and kids don’t eat breakfast lunch or both.
