I’m excited to announce I will be joining the Bermuda Cancer Centre in the coming weeks. I look forward to joining the fantastic team in Bermuda and working in close collaboration with the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. A 🧵 on how I got here.

Isn’t this incredible. All the rhetoric we hear about thousands more GPs and hospital doctors and the reality is under and unemployment of doctors when patients are screaming out for an appointment with a doctor and waiting list are sky high. Shocking

Natural end point of DHSC policies is simply to shut down medical schools and end postgrad specialty training. UK training is being diluted by design & poorly delivered in a substandard health sys. Completely illogical to train doctors the monopsony employer won't hire anyway.

I’ve seen unemployed doctors driving Ubers, stacking shelves in Tesco…& now working as a dog walker?! Waiting lists are soaring as patients can’t see doctors…but doctors are unemployed & the gov are PAYING MONEY for non-doctors to take their roles?! EMPLOY THE DAMN DOCTORS!

It's worthwhile noting that specialty training posts aren't optional - the NHS and patients need them to exist in order for health services (both public and private) to exist. This shouldn't be anything to do with negotiations.

I am disappointed that such a huge and obvious issue for medical training has been completely ignored. Patients deserve doctors, and those doctors should be fully trained and qualified to provide the best care. There are no shortcuts to safety.

GP is in meltdown @ClareGerada was highly influential in enabling the mass substitution of GP’s much to the detriment of patients & her own profession It’s incredibly hard to even see a doctor in primary care atm There’s only one moral to this story Sell out, get rewarded 🤷‍♂️

Some people think that the discussions around doctor replacement are because we are anti-PA, anti-ACP, anti-nurse, and even anti-patient and anti-NHS. The way I see it though, it's because we are pro-doctor and for providing a good service. We've learned the hard way that if

Doctors in England earn £18.62/hr with £100,000 in student debt. £18.62/hr to save lives, care for your loved ones, & treat your child in an emergency. They’re asking for £22.67/hr; fair pay for critical work. @wesstreeting needs to pay NHS doctors fairly or we will lose them.

Honestly medicine in the UK is becoming a joke. Before long if you want to see someone who is medically qualified ie a doctor you'll most likely have to go privately in many specialties

@docib @VincentVanGrump @KreedKafer @LittlePersonDoc @RCEMpresident @gmcuk I would also say (and my current exploding inbox from people wanting to remain anon would agree), that consultant perception of the impact and trainee perception may not necessarily align in all units . And trainees do not feel at all able to express this.
