More and more residents in Hazel Grove are getting in touch asking me to give them confidence to vote Labour on 4th July.
👀Watch the below for a quick update on Labour’s progress here!
A real honour to be re-elected as Labour and Co-operative cllr for Heatons South, with the highest number of votes across all Stockport wards.
I’ll keep on working hard for residents alongside my ward colleagues and holding the administration to account in the council chamber. 🌹
I’m delighted to have been selected to be the Labour candidate for my home constituency of Hazel Grove!
Labour is on the up in Hazel Grove with 7 councillors elected last May. Voters can make a positive choice for a Labour MP and a Labour Government at the General Election! 🌹
Congratulations to

Thanks to members for their support (online meeting=no photo so this is from this year’s election!). Looking forward to working hard with my colleagues for our residents.🌹
🌹It wasn’t to be this time but thank you to everyone in High Peak who voted for me today. It’s been a pleasure to speak to so many members over the last few weeks.
Well done to Jon and I wish him every success in the General Election.🌹
On Thursday, voters in Greater Manchester will be able to re-elect
@AndyBurnhamGM
as Mayor.
Andy’s shown he can deliver real change for people right across our region - and it was great to hear residents in Marple recognise this when he visited yesterday!

I’m so pleased to be an official
@UKLabour
and
@CoopParty
candidate in this year’s local elections. For me, cooperative values are those we can put into practice every day, in our communities, to make a real difference. 🌹🐝
🌹I’m delighted to be shortlisted for selection in High Peak.🌹
I know how seriously members take the selection process and I’m determined to be as open and available to members as possible over the next few weeks, so you can vote having had the chance to meet and speak to me.
A real pleasure to welcome Labour’s GM Mayor,
@AndyBurnhamGM
to Marple this afternoon.
We spoke to local business owners & got a great reception from the community on Market Street.
Andy supports my campaign to be MP for Hazel Grove & I look forward to working together more!🌹
🌹Great to be out in Woodley with our fantastic Labour councillors Rosemary and Joe Barratt. Rosemary and Joe have shown Labour can win here and across
#HazelGrove
and are working hard to get things done for residents 🌹
Delighted to finally have my copy of The World Aflame by

The colourised photos really make you stop and think about history, and how we’re not really so far away from all the mistakes of the past...
🌹Great to hear from
@AndyBurnhamGM
in Stockport last night.
With the roll out of the Bee Network, Andy is showing how Labour in power delivers. Looking forward to campaigning for him in the run up to the Mayoral election on 2 May!🌹

I was proud to set out my case to my colleagues at the PLP hustings tonight. We all want to learn lessons, and to win again. I told them why I think we can not just rebuild the red wall, but actually rebuild the red bridge between both sides of our coalition.
Sunak came to Marple today but only met a handful of Tory activists.
Is he not interested in visiting local businesses or public sector workers?
Perhaps he doesn’t like hearing the truth about the impact of his government’s policies here in Stockport.
Sunny morning on the
#LabourDoorstep
in Heatons South. Local casework picked up, and numerous residents absolutely at their wits end with the way the Tories are governing the country.
I’m really grateful to the members in High Peak who contacted me over the last week, with support and encouragement.
I know how important it is to have candidates who know a local area and are in it to serve the interests of the constituency.
I’ve now submitted my application ⤵️

Good to hear from the northern Mayors this afternoon before they head off for their meeting with the Transport Secretary. We must sort out public transport in the north.
This has been a priority for me from day 1 in High Peak - I know how bad the service is because I use it too.
Last night
@lisanandy
showed a real commitment to empowering Labour councillors and councils: recognition of their huge contribution in creating change for communities, and a greater role in shaping Labour’s policy direction.

🌹Great to catch up with our Labour councillors in Offerton ward, Will Sharp and Helen Hibbert.
Will is standing for re-election on 2 May and I know is making a big difference in the community.🌹
It was great to be out in
#Glossop
in
#HighPeak
campaigning for
@UKLabour
today.
While the Tories are busy covering their backs, Labour is focused on the energy crisis that will affect everyone.
🌹I’m proud to be backed by members, union reps, & public servants from across the CLP.
I’m also supported by CWU, JLM, Labour Coast & Country, Derbyshire Young Labour and Labour Movement for Europe.
Labour member in High Peak? Join us. Vote for me today, first preference.🌹
Good to catch up with Stockport MP
@NavPMishra
this morning, in Woodbank Park.
Manor ward will move from Stockport constituency into Hazel Grove at the next General Election. We’ll be working together over the coming months alongside the three Labour ward councillors. 🌹
🌹Good to join fellow councillors and activists on the
#LabourDoorstep
this morning.
Residents in Offerton have had enough of this Tory Government and are ready for change with
@UKLabour
🌹
Great
#labourdoorstep
session in New Mills this morning with
@derbyshireylab
!
Lots of residents telling us they’ve had enough of the Tories and are ready for a Labour Government.
Took the kids to see the messages of solidarity and positivity in Withington earlier. So important for them (and me!) to see that those who hate others are just completely outnumbered. Hope!
🌹ENDORSEMENT 🌹
Thank you to Labour Coast and Country for endorsing my campaign for selection in High Peak!
Labour Coast and Country campaign for Labour policy to reflect the needs of rural communities such as those in High Peak, so this is a really meaningful endorsement.
Please keep signing my petition to reinstate services along the line from Piccadilly to New Mills.
@GwynneMP
- this is affecting lots of people who use Reddish North station, with trains getting too full for people to board at rush hour.
Chilly morning on the
#LabourDoorstep
this morning in Cheadle! But plenty of good conversations with local residents and chance to check up on a local playground that the Labour council invested in.
Great end to the week, hearing from
@evefrancisholt
about the inspiring
#RightToTheStreets
work - plenty of food for thought on how we can improve our public spaces for women and girls.
Thanks to my fellow
@StockportLabour
cllrs and officers for joining the conversation!
🌹ENDORSEMENT 🌹
I’m so pleased to have the backing of
@willJones200
, Chair of
@derbyshireylab
and High Peak’s Youth Officer.
I’m committed to working with, and for, young people across High Peak.
Lots to reflect on over 2023…
It was a real honour to be elected as Labour & Coop councillor for Heatons South.
I’ve put tackling poverty & women and girls’ safety firmly on the agenda, & with the Labour group will continue to push for better for all our residents in 2024.
I’m absolutely delighted for Rosemary who has been re-elected as Labour councillor for Bredbury & Woodley.
Rosemary & Joe are brilliant cllrs & deserve the support they get from local residents. Looking forward to working together more as we campaign for the general election! 🌹
I’m so proud of my mum for absolutely smashing it at the local elections and being re-elected as the
@UKLabour
🌹councillor for Bredbury & Woodley on Stockport Council! She won with 47% of the vote which is such an amazing achievement. Well done mum! ☺️🏆🗳️

🌹Brilliant campaign team out in Bredbury this morning!
Residents are backing Rosemary Barratt to be re-elected as their Labour councillor on 2 May, & I’m looking forward to working more with Rosemary &
@joejamesbarratt
as we campaign for a Labour win in the General Election!🌹
Delighted to have been selected as the
#UKLabour
candidate in Cheadle Hulme North for the local elections 2020. I’ll be working hard with
@cllrdavidm
@laithgaribaldi
and all the Labour team in Cheadle!
Earlier this week we launched our Poverty Truth Commission in Trafford.
Our Commissioners shared their stories in such a moving and humbling way. We’re all determined to make change over the next few months.
Reflecting on the brilliant
@PeoplesPowerhse
This is the North.
My highlights:
@THijabis
who are so inspirational in their campaigning, commitments to improving infrastructure from Metro Mayors, and our own session on Poverty Truth. Amazing art with Poverty Truth at the centre!
🌹Out again on the doorstep this morning with the Heatons South team - we even had a junior helper at the end (photo credit to his big sister!).
Plenty of good conversations with residents around Didsbury Rd, Mirfield/Marcliffe and Briar’s Mount.🌹
🌹We were out in Heatons South speaking to residents on Green Lane and around this morning - it’s always good to hear about people’s concerns and local issues. 🌹
Good to see Stockport MP
@NavPMishra
highlighting the poor state of Stepping Hill, and the cause of its underfunding.
Residents across Hazel Grove rely on Stepping Hill, and deserve better.
The crumbling state of my local hospital, Stepping Hill, has made headlines.
Hospital staff have informed me that the root cause is years of underfunding.
Does the Prime Minister acknowledge that our NHS is collapsing under the weight of 14 years of Conservative failure?
#PMQs
I spoke at last night’s Stockport Council meeting, & asked the Lib Dem cabinet member questions on homelessness and the Stockport Local Plan.
Unfortunately he didn’t have serious answers to these pressing issues.
@StockportLabour
are willing to take the where the Lib Dems won’t.
Two fantastic results in Tory ‘strongholds’. Well done to the candidates and all the activists who worked so hard for these victories.
Now for the rest of the country
#GeneralElectionNow
Yesterday’s results show that voters across Mid Bedfordshire, Tamworth and Britain overwhelmingly want change.
Labour will deliver for working people, with a proper plan to rebuild our country.
Labour will give Britain its future back.
🌹We were out in Heatons South this morning speaking to residents around Cavendish and Thornhill Rd. We’re out every week, and work our way around the ward so everyone has a chance to speak to us over the course of the year. 🌹
1.After Thursday’s disappointment, and a weekend making up for lost family time, today I’m starting to process the election experience, helped by some fresh air and reconnecting with nature. I want to start by focusing on the positives, 🧵 below - clue: they’re all about people.
Like many parents, I had a child off school today due to the
@NEUnion
strike. I know the real disruption to their education is from the Tory govt who have underfunded education for the last 13 years.
Teachers and school staff deserve decent pay and conditions.
#SaveOurSchools
🌹Trade Union Endorsement 🌹
I’m delighted to have the support of CWU in my campaign to be Labour’s next candidate for High Peak.
I’ll always work with the Trade Unions to improve the lives of working people.
Great to join our Manor ward candidate
@jonbyrne
this morning!
Our three Labour councillors do a brilliant job in the ward and Jon will be a great addition to the team. 🌹🌹🌹
🌹ENDORSEMENT 🌹
It’s great to have Alan’s backing. I enjoyed campaigning for Alan in this year’s by election and know that, like me, he’s committed to winning High Peak back for Labour.
🌹 ENDORSEMENT 🌹
I’m really pleased to have this endorsement from local member and teaching assistant Jim.
Jim and I share a belief that, with a Labour MP and a Labour government, we can make a real difference to people’s lives in High Peak.
It was a real privilege to visit the Pump Room in Buxton yesterday and hear from
@BuxCHE
@BCA1967
@BuxtonMuseum
and local teachers about the amazing work going on locally to bring Buxton’s wonderful heritage to life for local children.
I learnt lots and can wait to go back!
I had a lovely morning in Glossop with some of my campaign team, out talking to members before tomorrow’s vote.
We did our bit for
#SmallBusinessSaturday
by kicking off with a coffee in the 2 Hares!
🌹ENDORSEMENT 🌹
Thank you to Elise Wilson, Labour leader in neighbouring Stockport for her support.
Elise worked closely with leaders in High Peak during the Toddbrook Reservoir crisis.
She knows I’m ready to campaign for Labour in High Peak and win.
Along with all Labour Councillors in Stockport, I’m against the plans to close rail ticket offices across Stockport. Please join us in objecting to these plans that will have a detrimental effect on rail users, particularly those who need support to access rail services.
Stockport Labour Councillors are leading calls to stop plans that could see the closure of all the rail ticket offices across Stockport.

We had fun tonight on a hike from Marple Scout Hut down to Brabyns Park with the Beavers! We were lucky the rain earlier had stopped and we all made the most of the nice evening. It’s always fun to help out but especially when we’re outside!

I support their calls for better pay & conditions. They work often dangerous and difficult jobs to keep the rail network going.

Thank you to
@derbyshireylab
for backing my campaign to be Labour’s next Parliamentary candidate for High Peak.
I understand the issues young people in High Peak face, and am determined to fight for them.
I’m looking forward to getting my application in for High Peak. Having spent so much time over th last few months speaking to members and people living and working in High Peak, I know the area needs a Labour candidate who understands it and is ready to campaign and win.
🌹I’m delighted to announce I’ll be applying to be Labour’s candidate for High Peak at the next General Election.🌹

At last night’s meeting of Stockport Council, I updated the chamber on the work of the Economy, Regeneration and Climate Change Committee.
This year, I’ve pushed for more progress on the Local Plan and housing, and for the benefits of regeneration to be felt across the borough.
🌹THANK YOU 🌹
A big thanks to everyone who’s supported me so far - I’m so proud to have the support of so many wonderful members from across High Peak, as well as having Trade Union and affiliate backing.
👀 Take a look to see who’s backing me, and let me know if you are, too!
❤️So proud of our Commission today as we shared our work and recommendations.
📖Our final report is here:
💪Looking forward to getting to work on turning our ideas into reality!
Pleased that the motion I brought to Council last night passed.
By using
@TheUKSPF
money to invest in our communities, we can make Stockport safer for everyone.
In my speech I focused on the safety of women and girls in our borough, and I hope this will make a real difference.
