'Obviously, there are fiscal problems in American higher education. But itβs quite a leap to suggest that the humanities are responsible for them, or must pay the greatest price.' https://t.co/YnEDTGuvZZ

When evaluating claims claims being made about AI, a really simple question you should keep in the back of your mind is: βis the person making these claims about AI literally trying to sell me or others AI?β A lot of the claims you hear about AI are really just advertisements.

βThe humanities must be divorced from science.β No. Carl Sagan called it βunthinkable for an aspiring physicist not to know Plato, Aristotle, Bach, Shakespeare,β and STEM without the humanities has yielded a Silicon Valley that increasingly canβt read and has no conscience.
A Yale Professor says βit is the humanities that have sinned,β and so they should be separated from the sciences. βI am confident I can make my most persuasive case for a university of science, engineering, and medicine, if the humanities are not housed under my roof.β

Decades ago the philosopher GΓΌnther Anders commented on how (among machine worshippers) a feeling of inadequacy in the face of technology can give rise to a sense of βPromethean shame.β A deeply misanthropic shame at being human and not a machine. Hereβs how that looksβ¦
SAM ALTMAN: βA kid born today will never be smarter than AI, ever β¦ We will think how bad those people of the 2000βs had it.β

What a Halloween treat, reading this interview of @scottrhawkins . Never identified with the vibe of an author so much. Except, cats?
