The Olympics proved once again that Athletics is the most global sport in the world. 1.03 million viewers watched the #StockholmDL on BBC1 yesterday. Just to emphasise the importance of it being on a main channel, the same meet drew just 19,300 viewers on Eurosport last year (although on a Thursday night). Thatโs around a 98% increase?!.

World Athletics need to sort this out. The invites should go to the athlete first, not the federation. And if the federation donโt want to select the athlete, they should be allowed to compete for their nation as an individual, separate from the governing body. Itโs very simple.
Guy Learmonth has been shattered by the news that British Athletics haven't selected him for next week's World Indoor Athletics Championships in Glasgow, despite being eligible to compete. But he's vowed that, although he's entirelyโฆ ๐ Full story.

Says it all. @BritAthletics @ianbeattie1 @jackrbuckner please stop this from happening time and time again. Robbing the country (& Jake!) of an Olympic final for the sake of what, exactly?.
British hammer champ Jake norris throws a fine 76.93m today at the NAL in Birmingham. which compares with the 75.25m that was needed to make the Olympic final yesterday.

#USOpen . A whopping 5.4 million watched the Emma Raducanu match coverage on Channel 4 last night! ๐ฑ . Peaked at 9.1 MILLION for match point!. More than BBC1, BBC2, ITV & C5 combined!. Thatโs great given it was also on Prime! Surely one of C4โs most watched sport events.

This doesnโt explain anything๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ. Larger teams demotivating medal chances bit is laughable!.A British thrower failing to make a final will have ZERO effect on whether Keely wins a medal๐คฃ. And theyโve selected people who have no chance of Top 8 & left people at home that might! ๐ฉ.

When I posted this 24 hours ago, I didnโt expect it to get the reaction it has had!. But whatโs clear is that the appetite for womenโs sport is massive & is not reflected in that image. So many of the replies have provided great examples of books written about women in sport. ๐๐ป.

Iโve been banging this drum for a while now. If the WA invite is rejected by the governing body, it should then be offered to the athlete as an individual. If they accept, they fund their own trip, but still get to represent their nation (not NGB). Iโm sure theyโd accept that!.
Genuine question: why don't governing bodies just allow lower-ranked athletes to pay their own way to championships?. Is it just because performance directors can report back to say X% of athletes made finals so we fared better than Y sport and thereby look after their jobs?.

Extremely harsh from Eddie Jones here. Firstly, sheโs called Emma Raducanu. And secondly, Marcus Smith hasnโt just won a major title. 28 minutes of exciting Rugby in an Autumn series isnโt the same league as winning a grand slam. Sheโs entitled to enjoy it!.
Slightly gratuitous, this dig by Eddie Jones at Emma Raducanu. Her Vogue cover shoot was pre-US Open, and she has lost just two matches since

I love how Shelly-Ann is calling out the male sprinters for not racing enough ๐

Hereโs Dina Asher-Smith being interviewed by the BBC and then Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce walking in. This is a hilarious interview. Dina asking when Shelly-Ann was going to have a second child and then eventually Shelly-Ann going in on Dinaโs Jamaican heritage. @Lizzs_Lockeroom

@tessasanderson Well @bekah_walton did qualify for these championships but was left at home by UKA, for reasons unknown (aka lack of money). Her seasonโs best wouldโve seen her qualify 6th for the final. Itโs the federation that arenโt supporting our javelin throwers.

I'm still furious about this. Jade's recent performances suggest 6400 is on the cards. A guaranteed Top 6 (& near medal chance)!. Half the GB team won't get near that. Sort it out @jackrbuckner @BritAthletics - it's not too late to do the right thing!. Worst non-selection ever!.
The non-selection of Jade OโDowda, whose progress over the last 2-3 years has gone largely under the radar, must be the worst selection decision I can remember.
