With an athlete like Rhasidat Adeleke, you always have a chance.
Piece on last night's brilliant Irish bronze at the World Relays, and what it means for the road ahead.
Incredible run by Ciara Mageean in Brussels, carving two seconds off Sonia O'Sullivan's Irish 1500m record to clock 3:56.63 and beat a truly world-class field.
The best performance by an Irish athlete for many years.
Shericka Jackson asked if she considers herself the true world record holder given the doubts around the legitimacy of Flo-Jo's 21.34.
"If a person has not failed a test, it is the world record."
And there it is - the first Irish sprinter ever to win an NCAA title, and the first Irish champion at NCAAs for 17 years.
Another huge Irish record for
@rhasidatadeleke
, who moves into the top 20 on the world 400m all-time list.
Sha'Carri Richardson says there's nothing but love between Jamaica and USA at these champs.
"I'm glad the win I had in the 100 actually has brought unity. Even though we're competitors, that doesn't mean we have to be enemies."
The best, bravest run of
@ciaramageean
's career as she wins European 1500m silver behind the magnificent Laura Muir.
Muir was a world silver medallist last month. Ennaoui, who won bronze, was fifth in the world final, and Mageean just finished between them.
Stunning stuff.
In Barcelona yesterday, Eric Domingo broke the world record for a marathon while pushing a wheelchair, clocking 2:53:28.
He pushed his mother, Silvia, who has multiple sclerosis and recently survived a serious case of Covid-19.
Averaged 4:07/km or 6:37/mile. Impressive.

50.53 for

It was her 49th race of the year.
Astonishing effort. Astonishing athlete.
Ireland has its first ever field event champ at European U20s.
Elizabeth Ndudi jumps a big PB of 6.56m to take long jump gold in Jerusalem. Here's her last jump and celebration.
2:01:09 for Eliud Kipchoge to smash his own marathon world record in Berlin and cement his place as the greatest of all time.
A vicious first half of 59:51 cost him a sub-2:01, but it's by some distance the best performance ever in a proper marathon.
World 200m silver medallist Brittany Brown does not have a sponsor, and juggled jobs as a caregiver, babysitter and waitress this summer to fund her sporting dreams. "I just grinded," she said.

@rhasidatadeleke

Another whopping Irish record, taking 0.43 off her previous mark.
And she's in - Rhasidat Adeleke becomes the first Irish sprint finalist at the World Championships for 14 years.

That is one HELL of a start to the season.
Fastest 200m by an Irishwoman in history - obliterates her own Irish indoor record of 22.85 and quicker than her outdoor record of 22.59.
Awful news: Jerry Kiernan has passed away at the age of 67.
He finished 9th in the Olympic marathon in 1984, and in recent years he was coach to many of Ireland's best athletes, including Ciara Mageean and John Travers.
Heartbreak. Heroism. The best run of her life, by some distance, right when she needed it most.
Ciara Mageean exhausted every fibre of her being in Budapest tonight, breaking the Irish record, making every right move.

Just to put this into context as it didn't get half the coverage it deserves:
