One year ago today, #MarsHelicopter Ingenuity was deployed from Mars rover Perseverance, where it was stowed during the journey to the Red Planet. Ingenuity touched down on the Martian surface, survived the frigid night, and went on to make history two weeks later.

My latest Escape Room article in @RSC_EiC is out today with a microscale chemistry theme, encouraging students to observe, think and explain. It is very much inspired by the work of Alex Johnstone and @UncleBo80053383

They say pictures are worth a thousand words, but sometimes they leave you speechless. On this day in 1984, astronaut Bruce McCandless made the first untethered spacewalk using the Manned Maneuvering Unit (MMU).

On Earth, gravity makes it easy to do things like drink a glass of water or add fuel to a tank. But in space, fluids behave very differently. Check out the strange way fluids slosh on the @Space_Station & how it affects crew. https://t.co/GU9uArcvmS

CONFIRMED: β€œThe world’s most sophisticated tripod” has not only deployed but also latched! Each of the struts for this tripod, which helps #NASAWebb’s secondary mirror direct light into the instruments, is about 25 feet long (7.6 m)! https://t.co/QTAt5yn8zF #UnfoldTheUniverse

Don’t lose your chill β€” helium is the coolest element. (It's got the lowest boiling point!) Apply pressure, and it gets even cooler. Find out how pressurized helium helps keep the cryocooler of Webb’s MIRI instrument about 7 degrees Kelvin (-448 degrees F, or -266 degrees C)! ❄️
