In 2021, USFS and volunteers built wetlands near Foresthill, California. After the 2022 Mosquito fire, no one knew if frogs would move in... Recently, 2 California red-legged frogs were observed living in the wetlands! 🤞 for signs of 🐸 reproduction: large egg masses! 📷USFS

The hognose snake gets its name from its upturned snout. This snake will act tough when feeling threatened, flattening its neck and hissing, similar to a cobra! They will not bite in self-defense but will sometimes play dead! 📷 Courtney Celley/USFWS

Greater prairie chickens are known for their elaborate mating displays. Males raise ear-like feathers above the head and inflate orange sacs on the sides of the throat while stutter-stepping around and making deep hooting sounds. 📷 Grayson Smith/USFWS
