Rereading "The Bell Jar" rn, as any 31 year old man should. An underrated part is that the novel's structured by the Rosenberg execution. It opens with it, and dead in the middle a Russian hat designer helps set off the narrator's psychic break by saying it's good they're dead.

I've had trouble loving silent films for a long time. I'm ashamed of too often seeing them as just artifacts. That changed with 1955's "Dementia." It's 50 minutes. It's on the Internet Archive. It's non-stop Freudian dream terror.

Dementia (1955) broke the curse. I’m forever grateful.

Experienced the indie movie house laugh this weekend. Bizarre to hear people cracking up throughout Todd Haynes’ “Far from Heaven.” Is it performative? An inability to enjoy things not as jokes? Cold, black hearts? Eerie and sad to me.

I wrote a little bit about Ozu's "An Autumn Afternoon" and how films seem so tranquil, even insubstantial, while watching, yet how they just can't get out of your mind.

I'm sure there are tons of LA equivalent towns, somewhere just outside the city limits with similar stories in film/TV. But you never hear about Montclair, a New York suburb that just churns 'em out.

Montclair is nearby. Not well known among the American public. Loads of famous people from there. Buzz Aldrin, Kal Penn, Pinegrove, the Four Seasons, Clarence Birdseye, Stone Temple Pilots, Noah Kulwin (I think), that one Twitch streamer. It's even more full of retired famous ppl.

Reread "Mrs. Dalloway" ahead of teaching; hits harder as a 30-something. & the prose! "Septimus was one of the first to volunteer. He went to France to save an England which consisted almost entirely of Shakespeare plays and Miss Isabel Pole in a green dress walking in a square."

I'm being pedantic, curmudgeonly. I confess. But there's something interesting to me about the loss of that article, some kind of new thing being made. Maybe it was never there, and I'm wandering in a world of my own design. Good people are reading, in any case.
