This cannot be said enough. Linked to this is that Universities who normalise taking such short cuts 'because it will be needed in the workplace' need to also have a serious think about whether they are supporting students in the long run.

This is really easy to avoid. Use a proper legal database or hard copy law reports for research. Draft in a word processing application with the helpful "AI" turned off. Stop trying to use AI to do work which involves actual thought and intelligence. https://t.co/9jvkVr9Avs

Yesterday on 28 October 1938, some 200-300,000 people lined the Avinguda Diagonal in Barcelona to say farewell to the International Brigades. Some 35,000 fought against fascism in Spain. 9,000 never returned home. You won't be forgotten.

This graph of hours worked in paid employment by full-time students surely contributes to why they aren't getting the reading done. The govenment needs to shift the incentive towards taking fewer hours of paid work if attending iniversity full time https://t.co/HTzEwPu6uC

"We were once refugees" (Nosaltres vam ser refugiats).  Bookmarks produced by the Catalan government (2015) with images of refugees from Syria and Iraq together with Republican refugees and soldiers crossing the border into French exile in 1939.

Great to see the lead on the AI detector research I had the opportunity to contribute to make the national news. Universities need to redesign assessment and stop playing cops. Supervise assessment, for crying out loud! https://t.co/IlxBs3wtfu

At least a dozen Australian universities are using AI to detect AI. But they're not always catching cheats. Instead, they're wrongly accusing students of academic misconduct.

52% of new articles are AI-generated. There’s no reason to think this won’t continue. Writing is going to become a boutique craft, something quaint people do as historical reennactment.

With universities in free fall and Big Tech building machines designed to destroy your brain, you need to be proactive in pursuing your own education. Study history. Seek out the classics. Learn languages. Form reading groups. If you don't read, you're not going to make it.

There are lots of UK showings of the excellent The Shadow Scholars documentary on #contractcheating coming up, some with Q&As with director Eloise King and Professor Patricia Kingori. Image from Instagram.

Dystopia of dysfunction. Consider a society in which both political sides, in their rush for control, pushed-out an untested technology that introduced a 30% error rate into all calculations. The result is a society in which nothing functions & no information can be trusted.

Vivienda.

Monument in Stockholm. It reads: "Of the 500 Swedes who during 1936-38 fought for Spain’s democracy, a third fell. They gave their lives at: Madrid, Jarama, Guadalajara, Brunete, Teruel, Aragon, Ebro. Wanderers stop. Remember them with pride" Many thanks to @AfcKirre

A grad student has apparently pirated a fiction book, written a review stating the author used AI, is now being sued by the author, the student has asked for help online, the author has also now seen the related discussions. Thread follows, along with a Reddit link. #techethics
