It has come to my attention that earlier this week there was an order issued prohibiting individuals working in certain court facilities from wearing poppies while on duty in those locations. This order was issued under the guise that the poppy is somehow a ‘political statement.’

5/ Somerset Coun. Ariel Troster brought forward a motion to keep the seating flexible in the new stadium until more conversations were had with the Ottawa Charge. It failed 14-11, but OGEG said they are willing to explore some minor adjustments. #ottnews

4/ Capital Coun. Shawn Menard referred the matter back to city staff as the Lees Avenue land is also planned for affordable housing. Menard was able to pass a portion of a motion that allows the Aberdeen Pavilion to remain open for the first 18 months of construction. #ottnews

3/ There have been lots of concerns about the one acre of greenspace being lost at Lansdowne Park. Coun. Stephanie Plante brought forward a motion to preserve a piece nearby at 160 Lees instead. It passed. #ottnews

2/ A motion was also passed to try and advance lease negotiations with the Ottawa Charge, while trying to find solutions to keep the team viable in the Capital. The Charge have recently expressed concern of the fewer seats in the new arena. #ottnews

There were no big surprises as to how councillors voted. Barrhaven East Coun. Wilson Lo, who previously supported the plan, voted no. Osgoode’s Isabelle Skalski campaigned on voting against the project, but voted yes. #ottnews
