In 2010, I had good union health insurance. Obamacare was the law of the land. In November that yr my 1yo son was struck by a careless driver in a crosswalk. After two surgeries and a night in intensive care, he died.

[thread] Five years ago today I was on my bike and and just .5mi away from the office when a combo of distracted driver + mal-maintained bike lane caused my body to launch off my bike and my face to smash into the road. I was young, pretty new to SF, alone, and scared.

Mr. President, let’s set politics aside. My husband earned all his accolades after a lifetime of service. I’m preparing for the first holiday season without the man I love. You brought me down in a way you can never imagine and your hurtful words just made my healing much harder.

Maybe having an appointed body of non-experts arbitrarily review housing was always a bad plan. Maybe we should have laws & regulations and then follow them. Just maybe.

A current SF Supervisor said this to me in private: "There will be a recession, and many of your members, well, they just won’t be here. They won’t have jobs. They’ll leave...I’m not saying our best days are behind us…but maybe the Bay Area isn’t going to be so attractive.”
The weird thing about living in the Bay Area is that the prospect of an economic recession is a dream for many of us.
