I think everyone should be impressed with folks who earned JDs and MAs in Econ at UM in the “80’s. Better if he also had an AB in Econ from UM 😉
It's done: Michigan will name Syracuse Chancellor Kent Syverud its 16 president tomorrow. He earned a J.D. and a masters in economics from UM in the early 1980s. Strikes me as a very good hire - UM's second in 2026.

One fewer Detroit/antitrust connection ….
It’s here: A new era of the long and storied and turbulent Detroit newspaper history. No more JOA. We thrive or dive on our own. I want to beat the hell out of the competition. That’s never changed, never will. I don’t seek the opposition’s demise. We are better with two dailies.

In addition to her year end post yesterday, antitrust folks should listen to @AAGSlater with @oren_cass on this week’s American Compass podcast: prioritizing pocketbook issues, innovation and quality not just price, and to me implicit focus on law enforcement not regulation.

Second all of this
So sorry to hear that Jim Rill, a true giant in #antitrust, has passed. His tenure heading@JusticeATR was just part of his legacy in the field. He was a true gentleman and wonderful mentor to so many, me included. Our field is diminished with his death but a better place because

Antitrust folks -- first, read the new article below from @ProfSchrepel @CompetitionProf and @BowmanHeiden -- many have asked what might be meant by a "dynamic competition" approach to antitrust and the authors provide helpful views on the relationship to Chicago School 1/3
It's out (in open acces). @CompetitionProf, @BowmanHeiden and I situate the “dynamic competition approach” in relation to other #antitrust approaches. We explain why innovation rivalry demands its own antitrust method. We revisit past cases and show how agencies can act when
