If confirmed by the U.S. Senate, Florida’s David MacNeil (who was nominated by @POTUS today) will be the newest Federal Trade Commissioner.

I think everyone should be impressed with folks who earned JDs and MAs in Econ at UM in the “80’s. Better if he also had an AB in Econ from UM 😉

It's done: Michigan will name Syracuse Chancellor Kent Syverud its 16 president tomorrow. He earned a J.D. and a masters in economics from UM in the early 1980s. Strikes me as a very good hire - UM's second in 2026.

It’s here: A new era of the long and storied and turbulent Detroit newspaper history. No more JOA. We thrive or dive on our own. I want to beat the hell out of the competition. That’s never changed, never will. I don’t seek the opposition’s demise. We are better with two dailies.

In addition to her year end post yesterday, antitrust folks should listen to @AAGSlater with @oren_cass on this week’s American Compass podcast: prioritizing pocketbook issues, innovation and quality not just price, and to me implicit focus on law enforcement not regulation.

Is 140K the new poverty line? No, no it isn't. But it can certainly feel that way because our cultural archetype -- material success at all costs -- is broken and unfulfilling. Or, Why are Americans Unhappy? https://t.co/Gmy5qq7SUR

So sorry to hear that Jim Rill, a true giant in #antitrust, has passed. His tenure heading@JusticeATR was just part of his legacy in the field. He was a true gentleman and wonderful mentor to so many, me included. Our field is diminished with his death but a better place because
