Not to put too fine a point on it, but this doesn’t exactly reek of AI slop - it’s the same kind of airbrush-art boomer nostalgia that’s been hanging in every Johnny Rockets knockoff since the days of Sha Na Na.

The news: I’m thrilled to be joining the brilliant Annie DeWitt and her amazing team @ Enliven, a new agency devoted to visionary writing. I’m looking to work with brave voices, epic storytellers, writers exploring across the borders of tradition. Let’s go https://t.co/UfbTnO5uAr

Happy Indigenous Peoples Day! I think it is very important to get the day name right because Native Americans are still here and we are more than Columbus, medieval White people, genocide, and death—thousands of rich, uniquely American cultures that never went anywhere!

“She sat next to him, diminished and fretful, with idiot radio songs about sex in her head.” —Mary Gaitskill, “A Romantic Weekend,” from Bad Behavior. I likely won’t read a finer sentence this weekend, unless it’s by her.

It takes so much pain and energy to try to write even one mildly funny or interesting sentence. Dickens does it unflaggingly for hundreds of pages. The way he randomly picks up and elaborates the idea of ticking here. The sheer energy to write like this. (From Little Dorrit)

So funny that modern mainstream country singers are so obsessed with looking fake tough, fake blue collar and fake outlaw when one of the best to ever do it dressed like this

Easy to imagine that the challenges faced by authors, books, and publishing are somehow new, but in a Rachel Carson documentary they just said that her first book, from Simon & Schuster, sold fewer than 2K copies.

Hilarious that autocorrect absolutely refuses to let you type OMW, chirping On My Way! in cheery overtalk

More than ever, keep making your art. Write your films, books, short stories, etc. Find independent ways to do it sans the power to be cause… oh lawd.

Orson Welles' final live-action appearance was introducing an episode of Moonlighting in 1986. I've also included Cybill Shepherd and Bruce Willis performing, "I Told Ya I Love Ya, Now Get Out." This is the best Cybill looked during the entire run of the show.
