Californians want life to be easier, not less convenient and more expensive. #SB442 by @Lola_Smallwood seeks to bog down self-checkout with more restrictions and rules. It will slow down the shopping experience while making groceries more expensive. #caleg

#caleg leaders have rightly called for focus on affordability, yet #SB753 by @DaveCortese would do the exact opposite. Ask him why you should pay higher grocery prices so cities can sell stolen shopping carts back to grocery stores?.

We’re sponsoring an effort to create more opportunities like this for grocers and communities to eliminate food deserts. Check out #SB18 by @SusanRubioCA to learn more. 👉
They are hiring. Store was opened to eliminate a food desert. They have good food safety practices. If you need ingredients for Mexican dishes, they got the goods. And did I mention the fresh chicharrones. I love pork rinds since I was little. Not big on chicken feet tho.

The #caleg should start by pressing pause on any bills that will increase prices on grocery store shelves. #SB442 and #SB753 are two bills that don't benefit Californians, but will cause prices to rise.
CALeg’s Democratic leaders limited the amount of bills lawmakers could file this year so they would focus on the high cost of living. 6 months later—they don’t have a plan but still hundreds of proposed laws. Some warn costs would likely rise with so many proposals.

From the #caleg considering new laws to allow cities to sell stolen shopping carts back to grocers for a profit to restrictions to self-checkout, legislators are following the same playbook that caused this affordability crisis.
“At this time, we don't see anything that's going to move grocery prices in the right direction,” said Daniel Conway with the CA Grocers Association. As CALeg tries to tackle affordability, he says there are proposed state laws that will do the opposite.

“More is more, when it comes to grocery stores. The more there are, the better they all do.". This story is a great primer on the benefits grocery stores provide community as an anchor tenant, and the level of investment required of the grocery industry to expand food access.
